Problem statement
Plant diseases pose a major threat by
diminishing leaf health, crop yield, and
quality, often caused by fungi, bacteria, or
viruses that can spread quickly and lead to
extensive damage. This not only impacts
food security but also economic stability,
highlighting the need for advanced
technologies to enhance early detection and
control measures.
Introduction
Automating plant leaf disease detection
using digital imaging and machine learning
offers a substantial improvement over
traditional methods. While manual
inspection of 500 plants might take several
hours and miss about 15-20% of disease
cases, automated systems can analyse
thousands of images in minutes, reducing
errors to under 5% and speeding up the
process by up to 90%.
