THE KENYA NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL

TRADE PROJECT ASSESSMENT GUIDE FOR BUSINESS AND TECHNICAL


DIPLOMA AND HIGHER DIPLOMA COURSES

1. The Trade Project Assessment Guide for Diploma and Higher Diploma Courses is in
three parts; Milestones 1, 2 and 3. At the end of each milestone, the Project Supervisor
shall upload the candidate’s scores for that milestone by the prescribed last date as guided
by 6.1.4 of the guide and or any other relevant communication from the Council.

a) MILESTONE 1: PROPOSAL (15 MARKS)

The objectives of this milestone is to assess the candidate’s proposal in order to


establish the viability of the proposed research project.

b) MILESTONE 2: ACTUALIZATION (65 MARKS)

The objective of this milestone is to assess the candidate’s execution of the research
project as well as the step-by-step documentation of the process of actualization.

c) MILESTONE 3: FINAL REPORT (20 MARKS)

The objective of this milestone is to assess the candidate’s ability to articulate and
demonstrate the outcomes of the project while manifesting authenticity and ownership
of the work.

2. In applying this assessment guide, the following procedures must be followed. The
supervisor should:

a) Read through the whole assessment guide carefully and internalise the assessment
points, assessment aspects and scores;
b) Compile and award a summary of the scores for each assessment point identified at
each milestone;
c) Ensure that the assessment is as objective as possible.

3. No change or amendments should be made to the Assessment Points (Column 1) and


Maximum Score (Column 3).
4. The supervisors should customize the Aspects of Assessment (Column 2) within the
milestone to suit the discipline of study. Consideration should be given to demonstration
of competencies that go beyond knowledge and skills to include values, attitudes and
ability to apply skills in a particular context (Annex 16).
5. The Candidate’s Assessment Score Card (KNEC/PSE/PROJ/ASS/SC/1B) should be used
for scoring the candidate’ work.
