Purpose of the role


The Solution Lead will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing comprehensive IT
solutions that align with business strategies and meet user needs. This role requires a blend of technical
expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking to guide initiatives from conception to completion. This role
carries line management responsibilities for Development Leads, DevOps Leads, Technical leads, QA leads,
SRE Leads, covering all the areas required in people management and will have approximately 8 direct
reports. The expectation of this role is to spend at least 50% of time on solutions design and the remaining
time on people management, technology and tool management. Recruitment, training needs, absence
management and performance review are standard activities for this role; albeit there is the expectation that
the Delivery Leads in the area as well as the Head of (Product) Exam Solutions will provide guidance and
support. The Solution Lead will also have a more strategic focus looking at the refinement and optimisation
of processes, standards and methodologies recommending improvements where necessary. Great
emphasis for this role is a close collaboration with Enterprise and Solution Architects as well as Senior
Leadership for technical guidance and transformational activities.

Key accountabilities
Solution Design and Development:
· Together with the solution architect, lead the design and architecture of IT solutions, ensuring
they meet business requirements and are scalable, secure, and cost-effective.
· Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyse requirements, translating them into technical
specifications.
· Support squads in the implementation and delivery of the selected solutions
Continuous Improvement:
· Promote best practices in solution design and development, encouraging innovation and
efficiency.
· Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, integrating them into the
organization’s solutions where appropriate.
· Investigate and propose new technologies and tools to advance business outcomes
Staff Management
· Ensures compliance with all HR best practice, engaging with Group HR on all aspects of people
· Creates an environment which allows others to flourish, grow and overachieve
· Serves as a role model to others on Group Values
· Actively engage in recruitment, training and performance management for each assigned

This role provides leadership and management of the technical solutions and relevant people but integrates
closely with other provisioned solutions and teams as part of the wider ETO support to the Cambridge

What is the major impact of this role on the business?
The role ensures the correct design of technical solution to enable projects and BAU delivery within the
Portfolio providing effective outcomes to Cambridge University Press & Assessment in support of its
business goals.
Without the above Cambridge University Press & Assessment will be unable to provide assessment
services at a level required by the business, our customers and Ofqual with the possibility of sanctions
(including fines) from the latter
