III. LEARNING PROCEDURES


A. Preliminary Activities

1. What do words like "but" "however," "on the other hand,"


and "whereas" indicate?
2. Review
The teacher will then call a student to answer the question.
3. Motivation The teacher will present pictures from 'The Chronicles of Narnia'
and 'Harry Potter' to the students. The students will observe the
pictures. Afterwards, the teacher will ask the students the following
questions:
1. What do the pictures show?
2. Which story is the best? Why?
3. What similarities do you notice between these two stories?
4. How are these stories different from each other?

When a student responds with their observation, the teacher will


follow up by asking, 'Based on our discussion, what do you think
today’s lesson is about?' The teacher will then present the topic and
the lesson objectives.
B. Developmental Activities
A. I COMPARE or CONTRAST MO!
The teacher will present five statements. Students will identify
whether the answer is COMPARE or CONTRAST. The teacher will
use a game called "Unknown Directions" to choose students to
answer the following questions. This game consists of the following
directions: lean forward, backward, to the right, and to the left.
Students who are unable to perform the given directions will answer.
After discussing the answers, there will be a short review and
discussion.
1. Ella had her hair done in a style similar to mine.
2. That bike has the same color as our car.
3. I was hungry, but I was reluctant to eat, since I did not like
what was on offer.
4. I got an A in Math, and I am doing well in other classes, too.
1. Modeling (I Do) 5. I got my homework done despite the fact that I left my book
at school.
B. Battle of the Subjects!
The teacher will provide a text discussing Math and Science. After
reading, students will analyze it to identify similarities and
differences between the two subjects. A diagram with two columns
for each subject and a central space for similarities will be provided
for students to fill out based on their analysis. The "Unknown
Direction" game will also be incorporated.

Guide Questions:
1. What do you think are the main focuses of Mathematics?
2. What do you think are the main focuses of Science?
3. How do you think Mathematics and Science are similar?
4. Are there any differences in how you view these subjects
compared to the author?
2. Guided Practice (We Do) I ARRANGE MO!
The teacher provides incomplete statements with blanks for the
students to fill in. To complete the statements, students will receive a
list of jumbled letters. They must first rearrange the letters to find
the correct words to fill in the blanks.

Mine vs. Thomas Sherman’s
The teacher will provide a paragraph outlining Thomas Sherman’s
opinion on cell phones.

The students will analyze Sherman’s view on using cell phones and
write it down while also developing their own opinions about cell
phone usage. They will create a Venn diagram, placing Sherman’s
opinion on one side, their own opinions on the other, and the
similarities in the middle
