A claim is the position being taken in an
argument. Remember that a claim is not merely
stating a fact or just giving an argument. A
claim should not be posed a question, it should
be logical and debatable.

CLAIM OF FACT

A claim of fact attempts to prove the truth and/or


the existence of an idea or condition. It helps explain
and classify past, current, and future events. This
types of events reliable evidence such as studies or
reports that are accurate and recent, and are
written by experts. These data make the claim of
fact objective.
EXAMPLES:
Many Filipinas were violated during World War II.

In the past, women in the Philippines did not have


the same rights as men.
Cancer is a common disease but
not contagious
The Philippine Eagle is a critically
endagered species.
Pandemic level diseases all come
from viruses found in wildlife.
Social distancing is important
during coronavirus pandemic.
CLAIM OF VALUE
A claim of value attempts to prove an idea
or condition in terms of its morals and
merit. It states a judgement based of
principles or standards like right or wrong
or what is socially acceptable or
unacceptable.
EXAMPLES:
“Homosexuality is immoral because it
violates religious, societal, and biological
standards.”
It is better to walk than
run.
Juan is more handsome than
Pedro because of his dimples.
I think it is better if you
will sing than dance.
CLAIM OF POLICY
A claim of policy recommends action or
changes in the context of the existing
facts and value. It suggests an approach,
procedure, or mechanism that will provide
a solution to a given problem. It may also
express support or opposition to an
existing system or policy. Situations that
show that the policy worked or failed are
enumerated to support this type of claim.
