Software Project Management
Time: Three Hours Maximum Marks: 100
Note:

1. The paper is divided into three sections: Section A, Section B and Section C.
2. There are seven questions in Section A of 10 marks each. Attempt any four.
3. Section B has 5 questions of 15 marks each. Attempt any three.
All the questions of Section C (Case Study) are compulsory. This section is of 15 marks

Marks will be awarded for right procedure also in numerical questions.

SECTION – A ( 10 marks each)

1. Discuss the general process to build the project work plan. Also discuss the work plan
techniques. (5+5)

2. What do you mean by scope in a project? What are its goals and objectives? Discuss the
techniques of scope management. (3+3+4)

3. In how many ways you can manage the cost of a project? How the cost of a project is
related to time? (5+5)

4. Discuss the role and responsibilities of human resource in a project. (10)

5. What are the techniques for managing communication? (10)

6. What do you mean by risk management? Discuss the various type of risk of a project?
(5+5)

7. Discuss the various types of organization Structures. (10)

SECTION – B (15 marks each)

8. (a) Classify the software testing tools. (7)

(b) Discuss the tools and techniques for quality control. (8)

9. Discuss the techniques, commonly in use to resolve the issues on any project. (15)
10. Discuss the techniques that can be used to estimate the entire project or a particular
process. (15)
11. (a) Discuss the techniques to get the project back on schedule. (8)
(b) Discuss the techniques to get the project back on budget. (7)
12. (a) How will you manage the expectation of a customer through communication. (8)
(b) Discuss IT applications which are helpful to enhance the communication. (7)

SECTION – C (Compulsory 15 marks)

1. Read the case carefully and answer the questions given below-

A hospital needs a knowledge based system to diagnose the cause of eye complaints. A
company named Amanda has taken this project and promised to deliver its final version
within one year. The company made a team of 30 members to accomplish the project.
After six months, it was found that only thirty percent of the project is being done. Now
the company wants to recruit some analysts and programmers so that the project could be
accomplished within the remaining time period. The intention is to recruit those who
already have some experience.

Questions:
(1) What would be the reasons that only thirty percent of the project could have been
completed within six months? Is it possible to complete the task within the
remaining time period with the existing team by doing some overtime work.

(2) Make a list of type of activities that the analyst and programmer, who are to be
recruited, should be carrying out that can be used as the basis for job
specification. (8)
