PURPOSE OF POSTERS

The purpose of designing a poster is to create social awareness about current issues and needs,
to advertise, or to extend public invitations and display notices.

CREATING POSTERS

Posters should be colourful, attractive, and eye-catching.

1. They must be crafted carefully to draw the readers' attention, spark their
imagination, and influence their minds.
2. Posters are often read from a distance, so avoid too many details. Focus on
highlighting the main points only.

(a) Layout

 Visually attractive and eye-catching


 Title that is suggestive or catchy
 Use of slogans, jingles, or short verses
 Sketches or simple drawings
 Letters in various sizes and shapes
 Proportionate spacing, etc.

(b) Contents

 The theme or subject of the poster


 Description and details related to theme.
 Essential details like time, date, and venue (for an event)

 Name(s) of the issuing authority or organization, etc.

(c) Expression

 Use of phrases, slogans, and persuasive language


 Creativity in both content and design
 Logical organization and sequencing of content
 Adherence to word limit (usually 50 words)
