OVERVIEW

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) of the Bohol Island State University
(BISU) Main Campus has Educational Technology (EdTech) and Computer Laboratories
fully equipped with computers of updated configurations, Electronic Whiteboards,
various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accessories and Internet
facility. The laboratories are aimed at providing faculty and students access to
computing resources necessary for academic works in ICT related courses.

To maintain the functionality of the EdTech and Computer Laboratories, the


laboratory manual shall be adopted and implemented. The rules and regulations in the
manual are assessed in consideration of the development of the laboratories and of the
academic needs of the faculty and students.

SCOPE

The laboratory manual defines the appropriate utilization of the facilities and
equipment at CTE EdTech and Computer Laboratories. The intent of the manual is to
provide faculty and students with proper guidance in the use of the laboratories and is
in no way aimed at limiting the academic freedom. It is the responsibility of all users of
the laboratories to know, understand and abide by the rules and regulations indicated
in the manual. Responsibility of any civil and/or criminal liability in accordance with
BISU institutional policies that may arise from the individual use or misuse of the
EdTech and Computer laboratories resources shall be assumed by the user in question.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The personalities responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of this
Laboratory Manual of the College Teacher Education of the Bohol Island State
University (BISU) Main Campus are the faculty laboratory incharge and faculty members
handling classes that utilize the EdTech and Computer Laboratories. They are in charge
of upholding the rules and regulations in order to maintain the efficient functioning of
the laboratories and to protect any damage or loss of the resources. Furthermore, the
faculty members using the laboratories shall provide users with assistance in using the
resources.

Any acts or behavior that affects the efficient functioning of the facilities and
equipment or that disturb other users of the laboratories is strictly prohibited. Violation
to the following rules and regulations will result in loss of laboratory privileges or
disciplinary action in accordance with BISU institutional policies.

I. SAFETY

The safety of the laboratories and its users is a priority. The following safety
features guide users for safe work practices.

● Personal mobile device charging inside the laboratory is not permitted to


avoid electrical overloading.
● Computers should be shut down when not in use.
● Wifi modem/router, computer, airconditioning units and circuit breakers
should be turned off by the faculty laboratory incharge when not in use,
in instances of power interruption and before leaving the laboratories at
each closing of the day.
● Incase of fire or smoke within the premises, perform the following
measures:

○ Use the fire extinguisher, if it is still possible.


■ Fire Extinguisher Instructions (PASS):
P - PULL safety pin from the handle
A - AIM at the base of the fire
S - SQUEEZE the trigger handle
S - SWEEP foam side to side

○ Activate the fire alarm switch.


○ Leave the location of the fire.
○ Do not attempt to retrieve valuables.
○ Do not attempt to stop the fire large enough to generate serious
damage or injuries.
○ Call for help and stay away from the fire.

II. MAINTENANCE

Cleanliness of the laboratories and efficient functionality of the facilities and


equipment should be maintained at all times.

● Laboratories should be kept clean.


● Students are not allowed to eat and drink inside the laboratories.
● Equipment should be utilized appropriately and with caution.
● Equipment should be returned to the proper storage area after using
● Equipment and chairs should be arranged when done using and before
leaving the laboratories.

A. Computers

● Computers should only be used for academic purposes.


● Computers and its AVR/UPS should be turned ON and OFF/Shutdown
properly when not in use.
● Files of academic activities should be uploaded and downloaded from
the web.
● Portable storage devices (flash drives) should not be inserted into the
computers.
● Personal files should not be stored in the computer to avoid
bottlenecking of the computers.
● Computer software should not be installed or updated, otherwise
instructed.
● Computer personalization (installing screensavers, changing desktop
backgrounds, changing the video and audio settings, altering the
desktop icons) is not permitted.

B. Internet Facility

● Internet surfing should only be allowed for academic purposes.


● Internet surfing should be done responsibly. Visiting illegal sites and
using social media for bullying are strictly prohibited.
● Internet connection in personal mobile devices is not permitted
unless for academic purposes.
● File downloading from various websites should be done with caution
to avoid computer viruses, malwares and spywares.
● Passwords of the WIFI should not be acquired and shared without
permission from the faculty laboratory incharge.

C. Other Equipment and ICT Accessories

● Equipment and ICT accessories to be used outside the laboratories is


allowed with the permission of the faculty laboratory incharge.
Borrower’s Slip should be accomplished for this purpose.

III. PRINTING

● The printing facility and supplies are available for faculty and students for
academic purposes.

IV. PROBLEMS IN THE LABORATORIES

● A student found to have violated the laboratory rules and regulations


should be referred to the Guidance Office for further inquiry and
possible disciplinary actions.
● Any technical problem in the laboratory should be reported immediately
to the faculty laboratory incharge for appropriate action.

V. DAMAGE OR LOSS

● Any damage or loss in the laboratories and its resources should be


reported to the faculty laboratory incharge.
● The faculty laboratory incharge should report the incident to the Dean of
the college and to the Supply Officer of the campus.
● A student found to have caused the damage of resources should be
referred to the Guidance Office for further inquiry and possible
disciplinary actions.
● A student found guilty of having stolen any laboratory resource should
be referred to the Guidance Office for further inquiry and possible
disciplinary actions.

VI. LIABILITIES

● Violations to the rules and regulations stated in this Laboratory Manual


may lead to revocation of the laboratory privileges and or should be
subject to disciplinary sanctions in accordance with BISU institutional
policies.
