Case_Study_Questions_Mensuration_Class_8

This document contains case study-based questions for Class 8 students focusing on mensuration concepts related to 2D and 3D figures. The questions cover various shapes such as rectangles, squares, trapeziums, rhombuses, cubes, cuboids, and cylinders, requiring students to apply formulas for area, surface area, and volume. The exercises aim to enhance understanding and practical application of mensuration in real-life scenarios.

Case Study Based Questions

Chapter: Mensuration (Class 8)

The following case study-based questions are designed to enhance students' understanding of

mensuration concepts. The questions focus on 2D figures like rectangles, squares, trapeziums, and

rhombuses, as well as 3D figures such as cubes, cuboids, and cylinders, covering total surface

area, lateral surface area, and volume. Solve the questions carefully and apply the correct formulas.

1. A rectangular park has a length of 50 m and a breadth of 30 m. A walking path 2 m wide is built

around the park. Find the total area of the path.

2. A square-shaped garden has a side length of 25 m. If a border 1 m wide is painted around the

garden, find the area covered by the border.

3. A trapezium has parallel sides of lengths 10 m and 6 m and a height of 8 m. Find its area.

4. A rhombus has diagonals of lengths 12 m and 16 m. Find its area.

5. A rectangular floor is covered with square tiles of side 0.5 m. If the floor's dimensions are 4 m by

3 m, how many tiles are required?

6. A cube has an edge of 5 cm. Find its total surface area and lateral surface area.

7. If the volume of a cube is 125 cm³, find the length of its edge.

8. A cube has an edge length of 7 cm. Calculate its lateral surface area and volume.

9. A cuboid has dimensions 10 cm × 8 cm × 6 cm. Calculate its total surface area.

10. A water tank is in the shape of a cuboid with dimensions 1.5 m × 1 m × 0.8 m. Find its capacity

in liters (1 m³ = 1000 liters).

11. A cuboid has a length of 12 cm, a breadth of 8 cm, and a height of 10 cm. Find its lateral surface

area.

12. A cylindrical water tank has a radius of 2 m and a height of 7 m. Find its lateral surface area.

13. A cylindrical drum has a radius of 0.5 m and a height of 1 m. Calculate its total surface area.

14. The volume of a cylinder is 616 cm³, and its height is 14 cm. Find its radius.

15. A metal pipe is in the shape of a hollow cylinder. The outer radius is 7 cm, the inner radius is 6

cm, and the height is 10 cm. Find the volume of the metal used in the pipe.

16. A rectangular hall has dimensions 20 m × 15 m. It is to be covered with square tiles of side 2 m.

Calculate the number of tiles required and the cost if one tile costs Rs. 50.

17. A cuboidal room has dimensions 5 m × 4 m × 3 m. The walls and ceiling are to be painted. Find

the total area to be painted.

18. A square park of side 40 m has a circular fountain of radius 7 m at the center. Find the

remaining area of the park.

19. A trapezium-shaped plot of land has parallel sides of 50 m and 30 m and a height of 20 m. It is

divided into two smaller plots by a line parallel to its sides. If the height of one part is 12 m, find the

area of each plot.

20. A cylindrical tank is 2 m in diameter and 4 m high. It is filled with water to a height of 3 m. Find

the volume of water in the tank and the empty space left.
