CANLUTO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM

AIMS:
“if you FEED a child well, you can help him think well”.

Strong, intelligent and capable people usually have one thing in common: good

nutrition at an early age. Canluto Elementary School, School head Judy V.

Carollo realized this early upon his transfer to the new/institution.

The concept was simple; parents were given technical assistance through skills

training on natural farming system and support of vegetable seedlings to be

planted on unused lots at home.

Before, Gulayan sa Paaralan Program((GPP) of Canluto Elementary School

devoted almost a half hectare for vegetables production and fails to produce a

vast harvest due to the presence of big armor rock on the area. Upon the strong

plan and implementation of our new school head, (JUDY V. CAROLLO) former

“Hall of Famer” of GPAK program in our Province (Negros Oriental).(Malacañang

Palace Awardee teacher Implementor), big changes happen.

“if you feed a child well, you cn help him think well”. That is what we are doing

through Gulayan sa Paaralan Program, GPP.

It is an amazing factor contributed to our school, wherein there is an increase of

area at .25 hectare intended for vegetables production, through contour farming

by removing and using big armor rocks as a blocking strategy for soil erosion.

GPP thus helped solved the Malnutrition problem in Barangay Canluto

particularly Canluto Elementary school children, with cases steadily falling from

14(wasted ad severely wasted) to 0 pupils at 100% recovery based on the

Endline Nutritional Data.

GPP also helps promote environmental protection by teaching students and

parents’ environment-friendly technologies such as the implementation of natural

farming system. Food produced under the program are safer and more nutritious,

thus for a reason of food safety and security.

As an offshoot of the program, parents are now being encouraged to cultivate

their own vegetable gardens at home. The seedlings are being distributed during

meetings and conferences.

The Parents Teachers Association(PTA) have volunteered to conduct information

drive in starting vegetable gardens at home and also share their times to support

school gardening during Saturdays.

Canluto Elementary School have also benefitted from the program through

income which was utilized to support various schools’ projects.

While ongoing implementation, it has already taken a life of its own. The

community has started owning the program and has been creative in solving their

own problems.
The Essence and Concept of Canluto Elementary School Garden Mall

“FATE IS WHAT YOU WAIT FOR AND DESTINY IS WHAT YOU MAKE”

As a leader of this school designed this as a window to all citizens, especially on pupils

curiosity who doesn’t gone to the town or in a city to visit a real mall.

With this concept, it encourages teachers, parents, pupils, and the community to recycle

things usable for planting. The materials were arranged systematically and labelled

according to it’s category inside the area as replication of a real mall setting display.

Everybody is very much welcome especially school age children in order to engage and

share their experiences and ideas inside the garden mall. The garden mall is designed

as child-friendly, safe, healthy and happy place.
