Unit Test-1 (2024-25)

Class X
Science (086)
Time: 2 Hours Max. Marks: 40
General Instructions:
1. This question paper consists of 16 questions in 4 sections.
2. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some
questions. A student is expected to attempt only one of these questions.
3. Section A consists of 5 Objective Type questions carrying 1 mark each.
4. Section B consists of 4 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each.
5. Section C consists of 4 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each.
6. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each.

SECTION-A
1. The respiratory route of air in the respiratory tract of human is :
(a) nostrils " pharynx " larynx " trachea " alveoli.
(b) alveoli " pharynx " larynx " trachea " nostrils.
(c) alveoli " larynx " trachea " pharynx " nostrils.
(d) nostrils " trachea " pharynx " larynx " alveoli.

2. Which statement is true for the reflection of light?

(a) The angle of incidence and reflection are equal.
(b) The reflected light is less bright than the incident light
(c) The sum of the angle of incidence and reflection is always greater than 900.
(d) The beams of the incident light, after reflection, diverge at unequal angles.
3. Which one of the following pair is correct?

4. Assertion : All the plants possess autotrophic mode of nutrition.

Reason : Due to the presence of green coloured pigment chloroplast in them.
(a) Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(b) Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are false.
5. Assertion: When iron nail is dipped in copper sulphate solution, the iron nail becomes black in colour and the
blue colour of copper solution never fade.
Reason : Equation representing this change is Cu + FeSO4 CuSO4 + Fe
(a) Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(b) Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are false

SECTION-B
6. What are the end products formed during digestion of carbohydrate, fats and proteins ?
7. What is the difference between holozoic and saprophytic nutrition on the basis of mode of
breakdown of food.
8. A convergent mirror has focal length of 20 cm. At what distance should the object from the mirror be
placed so that an image is formed 10 cm away from the mirror ? What is the magnification produced,
by the mirror?
9. Define Snell’s law. When did Snell’s law will fail?
SECTION-C
10. A) Draw a neat labeled diagram of opening and closing of stomata.
B) why intestine of carnivores animals are shorter than herbivores animals

11. Write the object cases of mirror used in the following situations and support your answer with
drawing a ray diagram :
(i) Mirror used for shaving.
(ii) Mirror used by ENT doctors.
(iii) Mirror used in the vehicles for viewing the traffic approaching from behind
12. An aqueous solution of metal nitrate P reacts with sodium bromide solution to form yellow ppt of
compound Q which is used in photography. Q on exposure to sunlight undergoes decomposition
reaction to form metal present in P along with reddish brown gas. Identify P and Q . Write chemical
reaction and type of chemical reaction
13. (a) Copper coins when exposed to atmosphere for long time, it becomes green in colour. Name the
gas which attacks Copper coins. Also name the compound formed which is green in colour. Give
chemical equation also.
(b) Give an example of positive corrosion which is helpful for metal.

SECTION-D
14. Write chemical equations to represent what happens when :
(a) ferrous sulphate crystals is heated
(b) barium chloride is mixed with sodium sulphate solution.
(c) green vitrol is heated.
(d) quick lime is added to water
(e) slaked lime reacts with carbondioxide.
15. (a) What are the events of photosynthesis?
(b) How do stomata play their role in photosynthesis?
16. A concave lens is thick at the edges and thin at the centre, while a convex lens is thick at the centre
and thin at the edges. We can distinguish between a concave lens and a convex lens without
touching them. For this keep a book close to a lens and observe the image of the text of the book
through the lens. If the letters appear enlarged, then it is a convex lens and if the letters appear
diminished then it is a concave lens.

Convex lens converges light rays and hence known as converging lens. Similarly, concave lens
diverges light rays and is known as diverging lens. Linear magnification produced by a lens is equal
to the ratio of the image distance to the object distance. Power of a lens is defined as the reciprocal
of its focal length.
(i) What is magnification range of convex lens ?
(ii) If magnification produced by a spherical lens is +0.75, then what is the nature of the lens ?
(iii) What is the power of a concave lens with focal length 8m ?
Or
(iv) What kind of lens is present in human eye ?
