LABORATORY INSTRUCTION GUIDELINE


BEHAVIOR IN LABORATORY
• Act in a Professional Manner at All Times.
• Always adhere to the instructions provided by your instructor
• No horseplay and practical jokes.
• Treat your peers and instructors with respect

PERSONAL HABITS

• Student must be aware of the location and proper operation of laboratory safety equipment. i.e.
fire extinguishers, eye-wash stations, and personal protective equipment.
• No student is allowed to work in any laboratory without the presence and permission of the
instructor.
• Limit distractions. Avoid using cell phones or music headphones while working in the lab.
• Acts of violence, threatening, or abusive behavior is strictly prohibited.
• Visitor must be escorted.

Handling Equipments

• Read the Manual- Always read the equipment manual before using any computer hardware or
software to ensure proper understanding and operation.
• Use as Intended- Use the equipment for its intended purpose to ensure accuracy and prevent
damage.
• Proper Storage- Store equipment in the designated storage areas. Ensure these areas are dry,
clean, and free from dust.
• Report Issues- Immediately report any issues or malfunctions with the equipment to your
supervisor to prevent further damage or risk.
• Power Management- Turn off and unplug equipment when not in use to conserve energy and
prevent overheating or electrical hazards.
• Cable Management- Organize and secure cables to prevent tripping hazards and damage to the
connectors.
• Safe Handling of Peripherals- Handle all peripherals, such as keyboards, mice, and external
drives, with care. Avoid applying excessive force or rough handling.
• Cleanliness- Keep equipment clean. Use appropriate cleaning materials and methods to avoid
damage. Do not use liquids near electronic components.
• Backup Data- Regularly back up important data to prevent loss in case of equipment failure.
• Proper Shut Down- Follow proper shutdown procedures for all devices to avoid data corruption
and hardware issues.
• Static Electricity Precautions- Use anti-static wristbands or mats when handling sensitive
hardware components to prevent static discharge damage.
• Secure Connections- Ensure all cables and components are securely connected before powering
on equipment to avoid malfunctions.

HOUSE KEEPING:

• Laboratory area are to be clean and uncluttered.


• Doorways and walkways with in the laboratory shall not be blocked/used for storage.
• All tools and equipment shall be returned to their proper storage location after use.

LABORATORY SECURITY / THESIS STUDENTS:

• For safety and security purposes, accessing the laboratory beyond regular hours requires
prior approval from the laboratory coordinator. Permission if granted is limited to the
applicant, who must justify the need, duration, and specific lab areas/equipment to be used.
• Fill out and sign the laboratory user agreement, available through lab office.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSTRUCTIONS:

P= PULL safety pin from the handle


A= AIM at the base of the fire
S =SQUEEZE the trigger handle
S = SWEEP foam side to side

LOCATIONS OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

➢ Fire extinguisher is located outside the doorway of the lab.


➢ Notebook is located on the lab demonstrator’s table.
