Solid Mensuration: Pyramid Basics

The document provides an overview of pyramids, defining them as polyhedrons with a polygonal base and triangular lateral faces. It outlines properties of regular right pyramids, including equal lateral edges and congruent isosceles triangles for lateral faces, and presents formulas for calculating volume and lateral area. Examples with calculations illustrate the application of these concepts.

1
PYRAMID
 A pyramid is a polyhedron of which one face, called
the base, is a polygon of any number of sides and the
other faces are triangles which have a common vertex.

 Properties h

1. The triangular faces are called

lateral faces. B
2. The altitude of a pyramid is the
perpendicular distance between
the apex and the base.

PYRAMID
 A regular right pyramid is one whose base is a regular
polygon whose axis is perpendicular with the base.

 Properties: l
1. The lateral edges of a regular pyramid
are equal. b
2. The lateral faces of a regular pyramid
are congruent isosceles triangles.
3. The altitudes of the lateral faces of a
regular pyramid are equal.
4. The slant height of a regular pyramid
is the altitude of the lateral face.
