COMPOSITION DU PREMIER ANNÉE SCOLAIRE :2024-2025

DRE GRAND LOME SEMESTRE CLASSE:TD / C

ÉPREUVE D’ANGLAIS DURÉE: 3H Coef : 2

SECTION ONE: READING COMPREHENSION

Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions below.
Text:
Renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydropower, are becoming
increasingly important as the world seeks to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. These sources of
energy are constantly replenished by nature and emit little to no greenhouse gases or pollutants into
the air, making them a crucial part of the solution to the climate crisis.
The transition to renewable energy is driven by several factors, including the decreasing cost of
renewable technologies and the growing awareness of the environmental and health impacts of
fossil fuels. The cost of solar power, for example, has plummeted by 85 percent between 2010 and
2020, making it the cheapest power option in many parts of the world.
The benefits of renewable energy extend beyond environmental protection. Renewable energy
sources create jobs, reduce dependence on foreign energy sources, and improve air quality. The
shift towards renewable energy is not only a necessity for a sustainable future but also a significant
opportunity for economic growth and social progress.
While renewable energy sources offer numerous advantages, they also present challenges. One of
the main challenges is the intermittency of some renewable sources, such as solar and wind energy,
which are dependent on weather conditions. This intermittency can make it difficult to rely solely
on renewable energy for electricity generation, requiring the development of energy storage
solutions and smart grids to ensure a reliable energy supply.
Despite these challenges, the transition to renewable energy is essential for a sustainable future.
The rapid advancements in renewable energy technologies, coupled with government policies and
growing public awareness, are creating a momentum for a cleaner and a more sustainable energy
future.
