17. How many positive integers less than 250 are neither perfect squares (squares of integers) not multiples of 5 ??

Answer: perfect squares until 250 – 15 integers (from 1x1 til 15x15)
multiples of 5 less than 250? → 49
249 = 15 + 49 - 3 + x → x = 188

I subtract 3 because within the perfect squares there are also multiples of 5 less than 250, more exactly 3 (5x5, 15x15 and
10x10) that’s why I take them out so we don’t count them twice.
And I put 249 instead of 250 because the problem says LESS than 250, and not less or equal

How many integers ≤ X are multiples of Y?

Dividing X/Y

Example: How many integers ≤ 250 are multiples of 5? → 250/5 = 50 integers

How many integers ≺ 250 are multiples of 5 ? → 250/5 - 1 = 49 integers

21. If x is a positive integer and x is not equal to 3, which of the following is true if 𝑥 = 𝑦−1
?

a. y>0
b. y is an integer.
c. y<1
d. y not equal to ⅘
e. |𝑦| < 2

Answer: if y = ⅘, the result is negative x and the questions says it is a positive integer, thus letter “d” is correct.
the rest are incorrect. For instance, imagine x =1, then y = -1/2. I can delete a and b.
And imagine x =4. I can delete c and e.
3𝑦
Option 2: x must be a positive integer, thus: 𝑦−1
> 0. With that you get that y > 0 and y >1, thus y must be greater than 1.
Letter d is the only option

Danila’s suitcase contain more books than Kay’s?

(1) Kay’s suitcase and its contents weigh 26 pounds.

(2) The contents of Danila’s suitcase cost $85.

Answer: (1) alone is sufficient

one book weighs 2 ¼ pounds. Then 12 books will weigh 12 * 2.25 = 27
pounds. Then if Kay’s suitcase contains 26, it must have less books

25. Fabio bought several pairs of socks, some woolen and the others cotton. The price of the each pair of woolen socks
was $3 higher than the price of each pair of cotton socks. What was the average price of the pairs of socks that Fabio
bought?

(1) He bought three times as many pairs of cotton socks as woolen socks.
(2) He spent twice as much money on cotton socks as he did on woolen socks.

Pw = 3 + Pc
—------------
𝑃𝑤*𝑊 + 𝑃𝑐*𝐶 (3 + 𝑃𝑐)*𝑊 + 𝑃𝑐*𝐶
𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 = 𝑊+𝐶
= 𝑊+𝐶

we need to find W, C and Pc

(3 + 𝑃𝑐)*𝑊 + 3𝑊𝑃𝑐
Statement 1: C = 3W → a𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 = 𝑊 + 3𝑊
not sufficient. we still need to know Pc
Statement 2: Pc*C=2*Pw*W → Pc*C = 2*(3 + Pc)*W not sufficient, we still don’t know Pc
Together: if in stat.1 it said that C =3W, then 3W*Pc = 6W + 2W*Pc → W*Pc = 6W → Pc = 6

26. If x and y are positive integers, is x + y = 7 ??

(1) 4x + 3y = 24
(2) 9x - 2y = 19

Answer: (1)
Because in statement 1 if you try numbers you can see how with different options you
would get 24 but not with x=3 and y = 4 and vice versa so you could answer the question.
While with statement 2 you can see that with x=3 and y=4 you would get 19 but you
would also get 19 with x=5 and y=13 so it is not sufficient.

33. If T is a set of 4 integers, is the median of the 4 integers positive?

(1) The sum of the integers in T is positive.

(2) The product of integers in T is positive.

Answer: NONE of them is sufficient.

In the first one, X2 or X3 could be negative and the sum of T still be positive.
In the second one. in order for the product to be positive, 2 or 4 of them must be positive. In the case that 2 are positive, the
other two must be negative and this could be still X2 or X3.

34. If G is a set of 7 distinct positive integers whose average is 12 and whose median is 9, what is the greatest integer

37. 6, x, y, 5, 3, w → Is the range of the six integers above greater than 4?

3
(1) y = 𝑥
(2) x - w = 5

Answer: EACH
State 1 is sufficient. Let’s first assume that 6 is the highest and 3 the smallest. The range is < 4. The range is 3 . But actually
that is the lowest range we could get. Because any other smaller value is going to give a higher range. if the lowest would be 1
→ range = 6 - 1 = 5. If the lowest was -3 → range = 6 - - 3 = 9. Statement 1 is sufficient because even if you might be thinking
that you can plug any number, the thing is that any number you plug in is gonna give you a set whose range is always gonna be
higher than 4. For instance, if x = 1 → y = 1, then the range is 6 - 1 = 4. Another example, if x = 10 → y = 1000, then the range
is 1000 - lowest…. Which one could give us the lowest value? w = 1. Assuming that, 1000 - 1 = 999.

Statement 2 is sufficient. Pay attention, if you look carefully, you will notice that x - w = 5 is like a range. What they are telling
you is that assuming that range is 5, the overall range is always >= 5

38. What is the sum of all of the two-digit positive multiples of 3?

Answer: 1665

Okay relax, relax. It looks difficult but it is not, you’ve been in a similar situation before. Step by step:
- Two-digit positive: that means numbers between 10 and 99, including these two.
- And from all of this, they have to be multiple of 3!!!! How do I get there ?!?!
Listen to me, listen to me. You have done a similar exercise in the past. There is a way to know how many integers
below x number are multiples of some other nº. I put here the recall.

How many integers ≤ X are multiples of Y?

Dividing X/Y

Example: How many integers ≤ 250 are multiples of 5? → 250/5 = 50 integers

How many integers ≺ 250 are multiples of 5 ? → 250/5 - 1 = 49 integers

Cool, so you can move forward.

two digit positive multiples of 3 = 99/3 - 3 = 30 (we subtract 3 because the formula we are using is foR all integers <= 99, and
that includes all one-digit numbers from 1 to 9. As 3, 6 and 9 are also multiples of 3, we have 3 integers we have to subtract)

Nice, and now we have to add them all, but… Do I have to guess all those 30 multiples of 3 ?!?!?! There is another trick. You
just need to know some at the beginning and some at the end.

SUM = 12 + 15 + 18 + …… + 93 + 96 + 99
+ SUM = 99 + 96 + 93 + …… + 18 + 15 + 12
—---—-----------------------------------------------------
2*SUM = 111 + 111 + 111 + …… + 111 + 111 + 111
You have the incognite SUM, but how many 111 do I have? → 30 my friend hahaha, because you guessed it before.
2*SUM = 30 * 111 → SUM = 15 * 111 = 1665

What is the sum from 10 to 20?

1º → 10 + 11 + 12 + …… + 19 + 20 2º → 20 + 19 + 18 + ……… + 11 + 10 3º → SUM 1º + 2º

10 + 11 + 12 + …… + 19 + 20
+ 20 + 19 + 18 + …… + 11 + 10
—-------------------------------------------------
30 + 30 + 30 + …… + 30 + 30

4º → 2*SUM = 30 * 11 → SUM = 15 * 11 = 165

multiplied by 11 because there are 11 digits you want to add

Statment 1 sufficient. it only works with division ¡.

Statement 2 sufficient. It works with subtraction and division and you may reject it because apparently you should only get one
right in order to decide, but this can also work because if where you operate 10 $$$ 2 < 11 dividing or subtracting, the result will
always be lower than 11 so it is also sufficient.

What is the sum of the first “a” terms of this sequence?

(1) 10 < 𝑘𝑎−2 − 𝑘𝑎 < 20

(2) the sum of the first a-1 terms is 310.

Answer: EACH
we need to guess k
State 1. sufficient. 𝑘1, 𝑘2,𝑘3,… = 160, 80, 40, 20, 10, 5, 2.5
if 𝑘𝑎−2 − 𝑘𝑎 is between 20 and 10, we can do tries, if k = 5 → 40-10 = 30, wrong. if k = 7 → 10 - 2.5 = 7.5. wrong. if k = 6 → 20 -
5 = 15. yes, and it is the only possible, so with statem. 1 is sufficient to know k.

44. What is the units digit of 17 − 19 ?

a. 0
b. 2
c. 4
d. 6
e. 8

Answer: e
unit digit pattern of 7 → 7, 9, 3, 1, 7, 9, 3…. → a group of 4 possibili. so 17/4 = 4.2 which means it ends up in digit 7
unit digit pattern of 9 → 9, 1, 9, 1… → a group of 2, so 19/2 = 9.5, which means it ends up in 9
???7 - ???9 = 8

14 15
What are the units digit of x? → given that x = 3 −9

when working with exponents, you must know there is a pattern.

1 2 3 4 5 6
3 = 3 3 = 9 3 = 27 3 = 81 3 = 243 3 = 729…….

Take a look at the units, there is a pattern: 3, 9, 7, 1, 3, 9, 7, 1, 3…

It happens with all numbers
14
So if you want to know the units of 3 , you can divide the exponent by the nº of possibilities, in the case of 3 there are 4
14/4 = 3.5. that means 3 groups and a half, which is digit 9.

The same happens with 9. the units when taking nine to the powers give us the following pattern: 9, 1, 9, 1, 9,....
15
if you want to know 9 , then 15/2 = 7.5, 7 rounds and a half, thus ending up in 9.

So what are the units of x? → ???9 + ???9 = ????8 units

Answer: EACH
in order to know if k > m, k must be <=11 or >=12
sate. 1 sufficient because 7 3= 49 3 = 147 and you don’t know the result but you know that 144 = 12, thus k > 147 >12
state. 2 is also sufficient. k = 154 that you don’t know the result but you know that 169 = 13 thus k = 169 > 12

46. What number is p percent of q percent of 1000?

47. Ten years ago, Benton and Chaco each had a population of 60,000. Since then, Benton’s population has risen by 50
percent, and it is now 80% higher than Chaco’s. What is the sum of their current populations?

Answer: 140,000

Before → Chaco = 60K Benton = 60K

Now → Benton = 1.5*60K = 90K → 90K = 1.8*Chaco → Chaco = 50,000 → total = 90K + 50K = 140K

48. During the first month of hibernation, a bear lost 30 percent of its body weight and during the first two months of
hibernation, it lost 50 percent of its body weight. By approximately what percent did its body weight decrease during
the second month of hibernation?

Answer: 28.57%
imagine total weight is 100. During first month it ended up with 70 kg [0.70*100]. And during the first two months half, that is 50
kg [0.5*100]. Then the difference is 20 kg, which is 20/70*100 = 28.57%
49. If Leah’s electricity bill was g percent higher than her gas bill but t percent lower than her telephone bill, her telephone
bill was what percent higher than her gas bill (t<100)?

100(𝑔+𝑡)
a. 100−𝑡

b. 100+𝑡
%
100(𝑔𝑡)
c. 100−𝑡
%
100(𝑔𝑡)
d. 100+𝑔−𝑡
%
100(𝑔−𝑡)
e. 100+𝑡
%
Answer: A
the order is: T>E>G. So let’s imagine number: 200 > 100 > 50 → t = 100 and g = 50
200 − 50
So what is the answer to the question? 50
% = 300%
Now you just have to try with that t and g you know, which of the responses give you 300%, in this case, option a.

PERMUTATION VS COMBINATION!

Permutation → order IS important

Combination → order IS NOT important

Imagine you have to create a word with 2 letter, A and B, how many possibilities do you see? → 2 right? AB or BA. That is a
permutation because order is important, AB mean a different thing than BA.
But if I tell you to create a meal with two ingredients, eggs and oil, how many possibilities? → only 1. That is a combination
because order is not important, in the sense that a meal with eggs and oil is the same as oil and eggs.
