II. RATIONALE
Language Month is a celebration to promote traditional, global, and constantly
evolving languages. It aims to raise awareness of diverse languages, cultures, and
histories that contribute to what we have now. In keeping with January 2024's
celebration of Language Month, a variety of literary, cultural, and artistic contests and
events will be held in both English and Filipino to foster an appreciation and learning of
language skills and proficiencies through pertinent language activities.
This is an avenue and opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and
skills through language and literary events. Likewise, it promotes the traditional diverse
language and culture with this year’s theme, “Celebrating Linguistic Diversity: Embracing
Through Language." It is envisioned that students will embrace the value of English and
Filipino language and literature in their daily lives while continuing to improve their
language proficiency.

III. OBJECTIVES
This activity aims to:
1. Celebrate Diversity through language.
2. Preserve the traditional language while promoting the global language.
3. Foster student's interest in both Filipino and English languages through
fun learning activities.
4. Encourage the students to engage and demonstrate their skills in
language and literary context; and
5. Provide a platform to showcase the students’ abilities to communicate
their emotions via diverse artistic pursuits.’
IV. METHODOLOGY
To realize the activity and its objectives, the following procedures will be conducted:
1. Seek approval from the concerned authorities;
2. To conduct school-wide information dissemination of the activity using the
CSOHS Facebook page and school bulletin boards;
3. To charge the budgetary requirements of this activity from the learner's
contribution;
4. To conduct fair competitions on the different kinds of activity among all
students of CSOHS;
5. To conduct the activity on January 31-February 2, 2024 at the CSOHS
Campus;
6. Conduct this activity with the implementation of IATF and safety protocols; and
7. Evaluate the impact of the activity.

V. GENERAL GUIDELINES
All of the events are open to all bona fide students of Camarines Science
Oriented High School (CSOHS), Inc. Although the events are competitions for
CAMSCI students, preparation for and involvement in each event will be evaluated
as performance tasks and examinations in specific subjects, especially Filipino and
English Subjects.
The League of Language Enthusiast Officers are allowed to join in any
activities provided that they are not the facilitator in that activity. Further, interested
participants may inquire to their English or Filipino teachers and League of
Language Enthusiast officers.
On the day of the event, participants should be at the venue 5 minutes
before the start of the contest. Winners will receive an additional point for their
English/Filipino subjects. Hence, the teacher-in-charge has the right to alter or
change the guidelines of the events if necessary.
On the last day of the event, teachers, faculty, and staff are required to wear
modern Filipiniana attire, considering the proper dress code, while students who will
not represent their class should wear a Baro’t saya for girls and Kamisa de Chino

SCRABBLE GAME GUIDELINES

1. All participants must be in Elementary and JHS level
 Category A ELEM (Grade 1-3) 1 participant per level
 Category B ELEM (Grade 4-6) 1 participant per level
 Category C JHS (Grade 7-8) 2 participants per level
 Category D JHS (Grade 9-10) 2 participants per level
 Category E SHS (Grade 11-12) 2 participants per level
2. Two to four players are required to start the game
3. The objective is to attain the highest score possible using a combination of letters to
form words noting that all the letters are placed on board with different values for
computation.
Below are the point values for each letter that is used in a Scrabble game.
1 point – A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T and U
2 points – D and G
3 points – B, C, M and P
4 points – F, H, V, W, and Y
5 points – K
8 points – J and X
10 points – Q and Z
4. When looking at the board, players will see that some squares offer multipliers. Should a
tile be placed on these squares, the value of the tile will be multiplied by 2x or 3x. Some
squares will also multiply the total value of the word and not just the single point value of
one tile.
5. Without looking at any value of the tiles in the bag, players will take one tile each. The
player that has the letter that closest to A will begin the game. In case that player gets a
blank tile, he/she will be the first one to start. All the tiles will be placed back in the bag
and will be used for the remainder of the game.
6. Every player will start their turn by drawing seven tiles from the Scrabble bag. A player
can either place a word or pass but passing cannot gain scores. If any player passes two
times in a row, the game will end and the one with the highest score will win.
7. After the turn is over, players will have to wait until their next turn to place a word on the
board.
8. When the game begins, the first player will place their word on the star pin in the center
of the board. All players following will build their words off of this word, extending the
game to other squares on the board.
9. The game continues in a clockwise direction around the Scrabble board.
10. Once all tiles are gone from the bag and a single player has placed all of their tiles, the
game will end and the player with the highest score wins.
11. When the game ends, each player will count all points that are remaining on their tiles
that have not been placed on the board. This amount will be deducted from the final
score.
12. The scrabble player with the highest score after all final scores are tallied wins.

Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
A Psalm of Life
BY HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
What The Heart of The Young Man Said To Still achieving, still pursuing,
The Psalmist. Learn to labor and to wait.
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!

And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,

Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,

And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,

In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!

Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!
