Accelerating your career involves taking intentional and strategic steps to rapidly
advance your professional growth, increase your impact and achieve your long-
term career goals. It requires a productive and forward-thinking approach to
career development, focusing on building skills, expanding networks and creating
opportunities.

MEANING OF ACCELERATION
 To increase the rate or speed of something
 To cause something to happen or develop more quickly
 To gain speed or momentum

In physics, it means the rate of change in velocity
In learning, there are tools, technique and programmes put in place to help
learning speed in students or learn more quickly.
Meaning of Career
 A person’s progress or advancement in a particular profession or
occupation.
 A series of jobs or positions held by a person during their working life.
 A person’s overall work life or professional journey.

Key Aspects
 Profession: Specific occupation or field e.g. medicine, law or engineering
etc.
 Progression: Advancement or growth within a profession, often involving
increased responsibility, skills or pay.
 Long-term: Career typically span many years, allowing individuals to
develop expertise and achieve their goals.

TYPES OF CAREER
There are various types of career and can be categorized in different ways.
 Traditional career: Corporate Careers: Working in a corporate environment,
with chain of hierarchy and advancement opportunity.

 Government Careers: Working in the public sector (MDA’s), nonprofit

organizations and education institutions.

 Academic Career: Working in research, teaching or administration in

educational institutions.

 Non Traditional Career:

 Entrepreneurial Careers
 Freelance career: Working on a project-by-project basis, often in creative
fields such as writing, design and consulting.
 Remote Careers: Working from anywhere, often in tech, customer
support, or online education.

 Creative Careers:
 Artistic career: visual arts, music, dance, theater, etc.
 Design Career: Graphics designs, interior designs, fashion design etc.
 Media Career: Journalism, Broadcasting, film, etc.

 Service Based Careers

 Healthcare Career: Medicine, nursing, therapy etc.

involves reaching a level where an individual can derive maximum satisfaction
from their job.

 For some persons, it means getting promoted to a management role within an

organization. For others it may entail developing skills and knowledge to
become an expert in a particular filed.

 Accelerating an individual’s career may mean growing to a level where they

earn more by working fewer hours.

Although, each individual’s path may vary significantly, the potential for career
achievement can be an excellent motivational factor to encourage individuals to
continue working towards their goals.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHILE CHOOSING A CAREER

Choosing a career can be a difficult and intimidating task and as such, there are
several factors to consider.
1. Interests and Passion: Reflect on your hubbies, related careers to your
hubbies i.e. turning your hubbies into a career.
2. Skills and Strengths: Identify your skills, access your strengths (e.g.
problem-solving or leadership)
3. Job market and Growth Opportunities: Market demand for the career, growth
opportunities and industry stability.

the company’s values, mission and culture like?

time.
