Arduino Task_Sheet 2023-24
Statement of Inquiry: Scientific and Technical Innovation can be used to create products and systems that
can be used to make life better.
Description of Assessment:
Most of our daily life electric types of equipment are based on sensor-based devices. The Arduino Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) is a cross-platform application (for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux)
that is written in the Java programming language. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on
easy-to-use hardware and software.
Task: To design and program a functioning “System” with Arduino using at least three actuators.
Inquiry questions:
Factual questions:
• What coding language does Arduino use? What is an IDE?
Conceptual questions:
• Can coding and coding devices be incorporated into everyday items such as clothing?
Debatable question:
• Should I be able to code in order to be successful in life?
I. Explain the task in your own words with the problem identified
• Justify the need to research Arduino and programming. What you
might learn from this experience? How might this project be
useful for future school projects or future endeavors?
• Explain and connect the relevance of the key concept, the related concept,
the global context, and the inquiry questions.
II. Research:
• Identify and prioritize the research needed (in a table) to provide you with
enough information to create your solution.
(Full MLA citation must be used for research sources).
Research Plan:
“Research the definitions from above” Add research items that may not be on the list but feel might
be necessary for success.
Research Item Why I need this Where will I this Source –
research? information? primary/secondary
Do the actual research according to the plan with evidence and MLA citation.
(i) Design specification: List the design specifications your design should follow. Use this
template:
Justification of specifications:
• Do a series of concept sketches (3-4) to generate some quick ideas with brief
annotations.
• Draw 2 ideas - make sure the design ideas match your specifications.
• Label (annotate) your drawings with key features. Give each idea a
heading/title. Give each idea a heading/title.
• Pros and cons- for each design idea with reference to your specification.
(iii) Chosen design idea - Present your chosen design neatly in 3D/2D. It can be one of your
design ideas or a combination of any or all designs created.
• Planning drawing: Draw full size Isometric(3D) and Orthographic (2D) side, top,
and front views.
• It must be very well presented: neat, clear drawing, with annotations,
etc.
List the resources and materials you’ll need to make your Arduino project.

So on ……
• Flowchart: Draw a process flowchart for your process (see sample on Managebac)
End Product
ü Take a picture of your finished product.
ü Copy and paste the code underneath.
ü Self-assess your solution (copy the appropriate statement). Explain and justify your chosen statement
• My product is not complete/functions poorly. (1,2)
• My product partially functions and is presented appropriately. (3-4)
• My product functions as intended and is presented appropriately. (5-6)
• I followed the plan to create my product which functions as intended and is presented
appropriately. (7-8)
Describe how well you followed the plan and fully explain why you might have needed to
change the steps or processes
Changes to the Design and plan: Compare your chosen design drawing with the product
you made. Describe and fully justify any differences, modifications and/or changes.

(ii) Evaluate the success of the solution based on the Design Specification
and product testing
Use the table to describe, in detail, how and if your specifications were met based
on your feedback and testing (add rows if you need to)
(iii) Improvements
• Explain how your product could be improved. Use feedback from your testing methods
and your own observations to describe what improvements could be made to your
product? If you made the same product again how would you improve it?
• Did your product suit the end-user/target audience? Describe how the product has done
this. What impact does your product have on the end user?
Self-Management Skills: How did you effectively manage your time and prioritize tasks to
complete your project within the given deadline and meet your project goals?
Learner Profile: The IB Learner profile chosen was Inquires. How would this relate to this unit?
