Assessed Criteria: Criterion A (Inquiring and Analyzing), Criterion B Developing Idea),

Criterion C (Creating Solutions); Criterion D (Evaluation)

Description of Assessment:
Most of our daily life electric types of equipment are based on sensor-based devices. The Arduino Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) is a cross-platform application (for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux)
that is written in the Java programming language. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on
easy-to-use hardware and software.

Task: To design and program a functioning “System” with Arduino using at least three actuators.

Minimum success criteria:

a) Can be completed in pairs or individually
b) Create a system of three components, LEDs, switch, speaker, sensor, etc.
c) Map/drawing of your physical setup (final design)
d) Be able to explain your code (plan/process journal)

Inquiry questions:

Factual questions:
• What coding language does Arduino use? What is an IDE?
Conceptual questions:
• Can coding and coding devices be incorporated into everyday items such as clothing?
Debatable question:
• Should I be able to code in order to be successful in life?

Arduino Uno, Arduino IDE, Arduino Library, Arduino Peripherals, LED, 8X8 LED, resistor, breadboard,
array. Programming (loops, if statements, syntax, variables)

Terms Definition Image or Example Source link

Create a mind map.

Consider the definition above and the product we intend to make in your mind map.
Answer: Who? What? Where? Why? How? Include images if you like

I. Explain the task in your own words with the problem identified
• Justify the need to research Arduino and programming. What you
might learn from this experience? How might this project be
useful for future school projects or future endeavors?
• Explain and connect the relevance of the key concept, the related concept,
the global context, and the inquiry questions.
II. Research:
• Identify and prioritize the research needed (in a table) to provide you with
enough information to create your solution.
(Full MLA citation must be used for research sources).

Research Plan:
“Research the definitions from above” Add research items that may not be on the list but feel might
be necessary for success.
Research Item Why I need this Where will I this Source –
research? information? primary/secondary

Do the actual research according to the plan with evidence and MLA citation.

III. Existing products

• Research similar products (at least 2), and simple Arduino projects and provide
an analysis of the pros and cons of those existing products.

IV. Research analysis and design brief

• Summarize your research identifying key points, and provide an analysis of what
you have found in topics ii and iii.
Design Brief: Clearly explain the following:
• What initial idea(s) do you have for a final solution?
• Identify resources and components required
• Aesthetics (Physical appearance)
• Will it have a specific purpose or function?

Dr. Sajid, Mr. Boudreau, Ms. Wang Design – Arduino

Criterion B: Developing Ideas Due Date: May 3, 2024

and front views.
• It must be very well presented: neat, clear drawing, with annotations,
etc.
