Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) 15 mm/1 Hr. < 30

Method -RBC AGGREGATION

Comment :- Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a non - specific phenomena and is clinically useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of
disorders associated with an increased production of acute phase reactants. The ESR is increased in pregnancy from about the 3rd month
and returns to normal by the 4th week post partum. ESR is influenced by age, sex, menstrual cycle and drugs (eg. corticosteroids,
contraceptives). It is especially low (0 -1mm) in polycythaemia, hypofibrinogenemia or congestive cardiac failure and when there are
abnormalities of the red cells such as poikilocytosis, spherocytosis or sickle cells.

Note:- Test conducted on EDTA whole blood.

PROTHROMBIN TIME WITH INR

Patient Value, Prothrombin Time 13.3 Seconds 11.0 - 15.0
Method -Scattered light detection

Mean Normal Prothrombin Time 12.0 Seconds 12-16

Method -Scattered light detection
Prothrombin Index (PTI) 90.2 %
Method -Calculated

International Normalized Ratio (INR) 1.11 Ratio 0.80 - 1.20

Method -Calculated
Comments:

International Normalized Ratio(INR) is the most recommended method for monitoring of oral anticoagulants.
The dose of anticoagulant can be adjusted between the limits by two parallel biological assays:
1. Prothrombin time which explores the extrinsic coagulation pathway.
2. Activated partial thromboplastin time: which takes into account any effect of deficiencies induced by the drug on the
intrinsic pathway.

INDICATION RECOMMENDED THERAPEUTIC RANGE (INR)

a) Deep vein thrombosis,Pulmonary embolism.

Arterial disease, including Myocardial infarction 2.0 - 3.0

b) Artificial cardiac valves, Recurrent systemic embolism 3.0 - 4.5

The common causes of prolonged Prothrombin Time are:

1.Administration of oral anticoagulant drugs (Vitamin K antagonists)
2.Liver disease, particularly obstructive.
3. Vitamin K deficiency
4. DIC
5. Rarely, a previously undiagnosed Factor VII, X, and V or Prothrombin deficiency or defect.

CRP Quantitative, Serum 6.5 H mg/L < 5.0

Method -Latex Particle Immunoturbidimetric

INTERPRETATION :-

C - reactive protein (CRP) is the best known among the acute phase proteins , a group of proteins whose concentration increase in
blood as a response to inflammatory disorders , CRP is normally present in low concentration in blood of healthy indivisuals (<5mg/I).It is
elevated up to 500 mg/l in acute inflammatory processes associated with bacterial infections ,post operative conditions of tissue damage
already after 6 yrs reaching a peak at 48 hrs, the measurement of CRP represents a useful laboratory test for detection of acute infection as
well as for monitoring inflammatory processes also in acute rheumatic & gastrointestinal disease in recent studies it has been shows that in
apparently healthy subjects there is a direct correlation between CRP concentrations & the risk of developing coronary heart disease CHD

HIV - 1 & 2 , Serum Non Reactive
Method -IMMUNOCHROMATOGRAPHY

INTERPRETATION: -

The human immunodeficiency virus HIV (1&2) is the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).The
general method of detecting infection with HIV is to observe the presence of antibodies to the virus by an EIA method followed
by confirmation with Western Blot .The test is based on the immunochromatography method.

SEROLOGY
Test Name Value Unit Bio Ref.Interval

HCV,Rapid Card
Anti HCV , Serum Non Reactive
Method -IMMUNOCHROMATOGRAPHY

Interpretation-
Reactive result implies presence of antibodies to Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the sample
Non Reactive result implies antibodies to HCV are not detected in the sample

Comments-
Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is an envelope RNA virus which accounts for about 95% of Hepatitis Infections in recipients of blood transfusion
& 50% sporadic cases of Non A Non B Hepatitis. HCV initially causes asymptomatic Hepatitis which progresses to chronicity and in
some cases to cirrhosis & malignancy. The presence of anti-HCV IgG antibody indicates that an individual may have been infected with
HCV, may harbour the virus and may be capable of transmitting HCV infection.

Uses-
1. To detect the presence of infection to HCV
2. To detect the presence of carrier state

Limitations-
1. This is only a screening test and SHOULD BE CONFIRMED BY SUPPLEMENTAL ASSAYS LIKE RIBA.
Apart from that, for a definitive diagnosis, patients clinical history, symptomatology as well as
serologicaldata should be considered.
2. Patients with autoimmune liver diseases may show falsely reactive results.
3. A non-reactive result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to HCV.
4. Non reactive results in individuals with known exposure to HCV may be due to antibody
levels below detection limits of this assay.

HBsAg, Rapid Card

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen,Serum Negative
Method -IMMUNO CHROMATOGRAPHY

INTERPRETATION:-
Hepatitis B is a major public health problem of global importance with an estimated 300 million persistent carriers of the hepatitis B virus
(HBV) worldwide. Infection with HBV results in a wide spectrum of acute and chronic liver diseases. Epidemiological studies have clearly
linked the virus with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. HBV infection produces an array of unique antigens and antibodies
which follow distinct and individual serological patterns. By monitoring these markers it is possible not only to diagnose infection but also
to determine the stage of the disease and probable prognosis. HBsAg is the first marker to appear following infection and is the best
indirect indicator of potentially infectious sera.
