GENRAL INSTRUCTION:
(1) There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based of 1 mark each ,
Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains 07 questions of three marks each,
Section D contains two case study-based questions of four marks each and Section E contains three long
answer questions of five marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question in Section B,
one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D and all three questions in Section E. You
have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.

.Find the torque acting on the wheel if its moment of inertia is 12 kg m2.

Arrange the wires in the increasing order of extension in them.

Two different types of rubber are found to have the stress-strain curves as shown in the figure
(i) In what ways do these curves suffer from the stress-strain curve of a metal wire?
(ii) Which of the two rubbers A and B would you prefer to be installed in the working of
a heavy machinery?
(iii) Which of these two rubbers would you choose for a car tyre?

(a) moving downwards with a uniform acceleration of 5 m/s².

25 (a) State and prove work-energy theorem. 3

(b) If a constant force is acting on a body of mass 10 kg for some time and the speed of the body
changes from 10 m/s to 15 m/s. Find the work done by the force.
26 Draw the following graphs for an object projected upward (neglect air resistance) with a velocity u, 3
comes back to the same point after some time:
(i) Displacement versus time, (ii) velocity versus time and (iii) speed versus time.
27 Find the centre of mass of three particles at the vertices of an equilateral triangle. The masses of the 3
particles are 100g, 150g, and 200g respectively. Each side of the equilateral triangle is 0.5m long.

(a) Prove that the time rate of change of the angular momentum of a particle is equal to the
torque acting on it.

(b) Find the torque of a force F=-3i +j+5k acting at appoint r = 7i+3j+k .

(c) A planet revolve around the sun under the effect of gravitational force exerted by the sun.
Why is the torque on the planet due to the gravitational force zero?

The frequency ‘ν’ of vibration of a stretched string depends upon:

(b) Explain, why it is easier to pull a lawn mower than to push it? Draw necessary diagram
(c) Explain, why are ball bearings used in machinery?

What is meant by banking of roads? What is the need for banking a road? Derive an expression for
maximum speed with which a vehicle can safely negotiate a curved road banked at an angle The
coefficient of friction between the wheels and the road is µ. Hence find the expression for optimum
speed of the vehicle moving on a banked road such that wear and tear in the tyres of the vehicle will be
minimum.
30 a)What is projectile motion? A projectile is fired with an initial velocity u at an angle of with the 5
horizontal. Prove that path of the projectile is parabolic. Also derive the expression for Time of flight.
(b) Two projectiles A and B are projected with velocities √ v and v respectively. They have the same
range. If A is thrown at an angle of 45o with the horizontal, then find is the angle of projection of B.

(a) State the parallelogram law of vector addition and find the magnitude of resultant of two vectors A
and B inclined at an angle θ with each other.
(b) Two vectors, both equal in magnitude, have their resultant equal in magnitude of the either. Find
the angle between the two vectors.
31 Obtain the expression for potential energy stored in a spring. Plot the graph between force and
extension. what are conservative and non-conservative forces give one example of each .

What do you meant by elastic collision? Give one example. Derive expressions for velocities of two
bodies after collision in terms of their initial velocities. During elastic collision a lighter body collides
with a much more massive body at rest. Prove that the direction of lighter body is reversed and massive
body remains at rest

Work energy theorem states that – change in kinetic energy of a body is equal to the work done by the
net force. In deriving the theorem, it is assumed that force is effective only in changing the K.E. When
the force and displacement are in same direction, K.E increases and work done is positive. When the
force and displacement are in opposite direction, K.E decreases and work done is negative. When the
body is in uniform motion, K.E does not change and work done by centripetal force is zero.

(i) A body of mass 10 kg initially at rest, acquires a velocity of 10 m/s. The work done is:

33 Turning effect of force: To open a door we apply a force on it and then the door turns on its hinges the
larger the foods the more its turning effect also we can easily notice that it is easier to open a door by
applying a force near the end then near the hinges this turning effect of Force is called moment of force
or torque Thus greater the magnitude of force or greater the perpendicular distance between the line of
action of foods and its axis of rotation the greater is the moment of force or greater is the turning effect.
