Good morning, Class! Good morning, Ma’am!

Are all present? Yes Ma’am!

That’s good to hear!

Before anything else, everybody, kindly put

your cellphones on your bag and make sure that
it is in a silent mode so that you will not get
distracted when it rings. Is that clear?

Okay, so let’s start with____.

So, how do you feel right now?

That’s very nice of you _____. Answers vary

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY (15 Minutes)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Our lesson for today is about the Basic Concepts
and Terms in Geometry, but before we start let’s
have a warm-up activity.

Are you familiar with these games? Yes Ma’am/No Ma’am!

Raise your hand if you already played this game Some of the students raised their hands.

That’s nice to see!

First, let’s play 4pics 1word. The mechanics of

this game is very easy, I will be showing you 4
pictures which are related to our topic. There is
a number of letters below the pictures which
will serve as your guide in guessing the word.

So are you ready class? Yes Ma’am!

LESSON PROPER (30 minutes)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
In Geometry, definitions are formed using
known words or terms to describe a new word.
But there are three words in geometry that do
not require formal definition. These are terms or
words that don’t require further explanations
and descriptions. These are called as undefined
terms.
So what is a point? A point in geometry is location. It
has no size, no width, no length, and no
depth. A point is shown by a dot. It is
denoted in capital letter.
For example,
● A (Point A)
● B (Point B)
● C (Point C)

(The teacher will flash pictures containing an

example of a point and show concrete example
available in the classroom)

We can associate point in real life such as:

1. Stars at night

2. T
ip

a pen

3. Shirts Button

What objects inside this classroom can serve as

representations of a point. Anyone?

A line is a collection of points along

straight path with no end. It’s length is infinite. Answer may vary.
It extends infinitely in two directions. It is also
named by using two points on the line (two
capital letters) or lower case script letter.

Read as:

AB line AB or line BA

m line m

Also, take note that the arrowheads

symbolize infinity.

Can a line also be exhibited in real life?

Give me a representation of a line. Let’s start

here. Yes, Ma’am!

A Belt
A Pencil
A stick

Lastly, we have a plane, so what is a plane? Answers may vary.

A plane is a flat surface that extends to

infinity and it composed infinitely many
points. It is named using capital script
letter or using three points.

It can be read as:

Plane ABC, Plane BCA, Plane CAB or Plane P

Take note that in naming a plane, it must

arrange in a consecutive point and must have at
least three points.

For example:

Okay so, we can name this plane as what?

Plane MPO
Plane PON
Plane ONM
Can we also identify plane to real life object? Plane NMP

That’s right! And an example of a plane are the

following. Yes Ma’am!

1.top of a table

2.cover of a book

Raise your hand if you can follow.

What are objects you can see outside the

classroom which are considered as plane?
Students have raised their hands.

Answers may vary.

Additional concepts related to the undefined
terms are collinear and coplanar points.

When we say collinear points, these are points

that lie on the same line while coplanar points
are points that lie on the same plane.

Example:

Castro Ave., Laoag City, 2900 Ilocos Norte,

Philippines

MMSU @45: ACHIEVE-ing

MARIANO MARCOS STATE UNIVERSITY
College of Teacher Education

Why are these called collinear points?

Points A, B and C are collinear because

they lie on the same line.

Why are these called coplanar points?

Very good, now let’s discuss the segments of a Points Q, R and P are coplanar because
line. they lie on the same plane.
Subset Description Example

Line A part of a
segment line
containing
two points
called
endpoints Notation:
and all the AB (read as segment
points AB)
between
them. BA (read as segment
BA)

Ray A part of a
line
containing a
point called
endpoint
and goes
infinitely in Note: Ray YX is not
one the same as ray XY
direction.

Aside from segment and ray, there are other

subset of a line. Let’s have Line AE and Line l.

Let’s have,
Congruent segment – segments that have the
same length.
Based on the figure which are congruent
segment?
Okay what else?
That’s right therefore, AB ≅ BC ≅ CD ≅ DE

Midpoint – is the middle point of a line AB ≅ BC Ma’am!

segment.
CD ≅ DE Ma’am!
Since AC ≅ CE ,then, what is the midpoint of
AE?
If CD ≅ DE, then what is the midpoint of CE?

Bisector – a line that divides something into two

equal parts. Point C is the midpoint of AE
Based on the figure, what is the bisector of BD?
The midpoint of CE is Point D

Collinear rays – rays point in the same or

opposite direction.
CA and CE are collinear rays since they lie on Line l is the bisector of BD since it passes
the same line through the midpoint BD

Aside from it, what else is the collinear rays?

Opposite rays – two rays with a common
endpoint that form a straight line
CA and CE are opposite rays since they are
collinear, they have the same endpoint and they
extend infinitely in opposite direction. BA and DE, Ma’am!

1. How many line segments are there in the

figure?
That’s right.
2. Name all the line segments.
3. Name the ray that contains R.

4. Name two opposite rays

5. Name a point that lie on PQ.

Exercise: There are 8-line segment in the figure
