Questions

Answer the following:

1. What is the effect of increasing or decreasing (L or C) on the table values and rectifier
efficiency (η)?

Changing the inductance (L) will not affect the voltage, but it will impact the current.

Increasing the capacitance (C) raises the output voltage (both RMS and DC), improves efficiency, and reduces
ripple.

2. Find the output frequency with respect to the input frequency?

In a three-phase half-wave rectifier, the output frequency matches the input frequency. Thus, if the input
frequency is 50 Hz, the output frequency will also be 50 Hz.On the other hand, in a three-phase full-wave
rectifier, the output frequency is three times the input frequency. Therefore, if the input frequency is 50 Hz,
the output frequency will be 3 × 50 = 150 Hz

Conclusion:
A three-phase rectifier is an optimal choice for converting three-phase AC power into DC power.
Compared to single-phase rectifiers, it provides a smoother and more stable output, enhancing efficiency and
enabling the delivery of higher power levels. This makes it especially suitable for industrial and high-power
applications requiring consistent DC voltage. Furthermore, incorporating filtering components like inductors
(L) and capacitors (C) can significantly reduce ripple, further refining the output and boosting overall
performance and efficiency.
