General Instructions

• Formula Sheets are attached to the back of the exam.

• Solve all numerical problems as completely as you can.
• Clearly identify your final answer
• Be sure to report the correct number of significant digits, and don’t forget units.
• There are a total of 55 Marks.

Note: This was based of a final exam previous used in another first-year physics class (not PHYS 1800). The topics
are similar, not identical. I cross out a couple of questions, and adding a new question to make it more
applicable.

c) Is greater than the friction force which resists the motion of the box.
d) Is greater than both the weight of the box and the friction force which resists the motion.

8. Due to the Earth’s rotation about its axis you weigh:

a) Slightly more at the equator than at the poles.
b) Slightly less at the equator than at the poles.
c) The same everywhere on the surface on the Earth.

a) Increases if the angle 𝜃 is increased
b) Increases if the angle 𝜃 is decreased
c) Increases if the distance 𝑑 decreases
d) Does not depend on 𝜃
