PROBLEM STATEMENT

Real-time suspect identification and dynamic interaction with current infrastructure

are absent from current surveillance systems. To improve public safety, law
enforcement organizations need an effective way to track suspects and register
offenders.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Criminal Detection System is a real-time, portable surveillance tool that helps
law enforcement by using face recognition technology. The algorithm finds people
of interest, dynamically scans live video feeds, and safely saves criminal information
in a cloud database. It offers scalability and accessibility for practical applications
while integrating smoothly with current CCTV systems.

INTRODUCTION

Relevance or Importance of the Problem

Criminal activities challenge public safety. Traditional systems lack real-time detection,
delaying responses and increasing risks. An efficient detection system can empower law
enforcement and ensure safer communities.

Background Information

Advancements in AI and computer vision have enabled real-time facial recognition

systems. These systems identify individuals through unique features and utilize cloud
databases for secure, accessible record storage, enhancing law enforcement coordination.

Previous Related Work

 Viola-Jones Algorithm: Framework for face detection in images and videos.

 Haar Cascade Classifiers: Detects objects, including facial features.
 Eigenfaces: Principal component analysis-based facial recognition.

While effective, these technologies often lack scalability and integration for real-time
criminal detection. Our system builds upon these innovations to fill the gap.

COMPETITORS/COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Several products exist in the market that offer features similar to the Criminal Detection
System:

 Clearview AI: Provides facial recognition solutions for law enforcement but lacks
seamless integration with existing CCTV systems.
 FaceFirst: Focuses on retail and public safety applications but has limited
scalability.
 NEC’s NeoFace: Offers robust facial recognition but requires high implementation
costs.

The Criminal Detection System stands out by offering real-time monitoring, cloud-based
storage, and easy integration with existing infrastructure at a lower cost.

OBJECTIVES

 To create a facial recognition system that can identify illegal activity in real
time.
 To create a database on the cloud for safe criminal data handling.
 To guarantee a smooth interaction with the CCTV system.

MOTIVATION

The need for sophisticated, real-time surveillance systems that can help law
enforcement agencies with crime prevention and suspect identification is urgent
given the growing concerns about public safety.
