Substantive content

CLASSES: Principles of aseptic and antiseptic treatment in nursing and healing work. Methods of collecting and
sending materials for microbiological tests. Principles of prevention of infectious diseases in everyday life and at
work. Pathogenesis, pathways of the spread of microorganisms in the body, elements of immunology and
epidemiology of infectious diseases, prevention of infectious diseases. Characteristics (structure, reproduction, life
cycle, pathogenicity, diagnostics) of human parasites living in the alimentary, circulatory, respiratory, nervous and
genitourinary systems as well as parasites of the muscles and organs of the parenchyma and skin belonging to:
Protozoa, Digenea, Cestoda, Nematoda, Arachnida, Insecta.

LECTURES Introduction to parasitology. The environment of parasites. The most important cosmopolitan,
opportunistic parasites and diseases caused by them. Tropical diseases. Parasitic and allergenic arthropods as
carriers of infectious and invasive diseases. Methods used in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases. Characterization of
bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Learning purpose: Acquiring knowledge of the basic microbiology and parasitology definitions. Acquiring the skills of
microbiological and parasitological diagnosis and diagnostisc as well as collecting material for research. Acquiring
with mechanisms of pathogenicity and ways of parasites spreading.

On completion of the study programme the graduate will gain:

Knowledge: W1 (A.W17; M/NM_P6S_A.W17) - The student differentiates the epidemiology of viral, bacterial and
fungal infections, as well as parasitic infections, taking into account the geographical extent of their occurrence; W2
(A.W18; M/NM_P6S_A.W18) - The student defines basic concepts in the field of microbiology and parasitology.

Skills: U1 (A.U6; M/NM_P6S_A.U6) - Student recognizes the most common human parasites on the basis of their
structure, life cycles and disease symptoms.

Social Competencies: K1 (KP6_KO2; M/NM_P6S_KO1) - Systematically enriches professional knowledge and shapes
skills, striving for professionalism; K2 (KP6_KK1; M/NM_P6S_KK1) - The student respects the patient's rights; K3
(KP6_KR2; M/NM_P6S_KR1) - The student reliably performs assigned professional duties.
