To play the game, students will

pick up an organ or part of the
human digestive system from the
pile and placing it in the correct
(Students’ Participation)
location on the diagram. For
example, if a student picks up the
label "stomach," they will need to
place it in the correct spot on the
diagram where the stomach is
located.
After placing the label, the
students must identify the
function of the part they just
placed. For example, if they placed
the label "stomach," they would
need to say that the stomach is
where food is mixed with digestive
juices and broken down into
smaller pieces.

Journey Through the Digestive

System: A Multi-Sensory
Exploration Activity
You will be divided into three
groups according to your multiple
intelligence: Divas, Creative crew,
and drama kings and queens.
The Diva group will write a song
about the processes in the
digestive system. Use creative
lyrics and a catchy melody to help
the other students remember the
steps in the process.
Please be guided by the following
criteria in making your output.
Accuracy of Information (40)
Are the lyrics factually accurate
and reflect a good understanding
of the digestive system?
Does the song cover all the major
parts and functions of the
digestive system?
Are the concepts presented in a
clear and understandable
manner?
Creativity and Originality (30)
Is the song unique and creative in

its approach to the topic?

Does the song use imaginative and
original lyrics to present
information about the digestive
system?
Does the song show a unique
perspective or interpretation of
the digestive system?
Musical Elements (20)
Is the melody catchy and
memorable?
Do the rhythm, harmony, and
melody complement the lyrics and
subject matter?
Are the instrumentation and
production of the song well-done?
Performance (10)
Is the performance of the song
confident and engaging?
Does the performance showcase
the strengths of the
singer/musician?
Does the performance convey the
emotion and message of the song
effectively?

The Drama kings/queens will

create a short skit or play that
follows the journey of food
through the digestive system.

Here’s the rubric for your

F. Developing mastery Based on our activity, today’s lesson is all
(leads to Formative about the processes, parts, and functions of
Assessment) the digestive system.

The Digestive System is responsible for

the breakdown and absorption of the
nutrients from the food thereby bringing
energy to the body.

The process of digestion involves several

stages. What do you think are those Ingestion, Digestion, Absorption, and
stages? Elimination, Sir.

Very well said!

Ingestion occurs in the mouth, where food

is taken in and begins to be broken down
by enzymes in the saliva. The food then
travels down the esophagus, a tube that
EXPLAIN
connects the mouth to the stomach. In the
stomach, food is mixed and ground,
breaking it down further with stomach
acid and enzymes.

The small intestine is the primary site of

nutrient absorption in the digestive system.
Here, nutrients are absorbed into the
bloodstream and transported to the cells of
the body. The large intestine is the final
part of the digestive system, where water
is absorbed from the waste products and
the remaining waste is eliminated in anus.

Yes, Sir!

applications of their understanding of the topic and apply
concepts and skills it to a real-world situation.
in daily living.
Guide Questions:

1. What are the main parts of the digestive

system and their functions?

2. How does the mouth physically and 1. Mouth: The mouth is where digestion

through chewing and mixes it with saliva,
3. What are the major processes in the which contains enzymes that start the

4. How do unhealthy eating habits and Esophagus: The esophagus is a muscular

muscular contractions, to transport food to

down food into a semi-liquid mixture

called chyme. It secretes acids and
enzymes to help break down proteins and
other nutrients.

Small intestine: The small intestine is

where most of the digestion and nutrient
absorption occurs. It is divided into three
parts: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
Enzymes from the pancreas and bile from
the liver aid in the breakdown of nutrients.

Large intestine: The large intestine, also

known as the colon, absorbs water and
electrolytes from undigested food. It also
houses gut bacteria that help with the
breakdown of fiber and other nutrients.

Rectum: The rectum stores feces until it is

eliminated from the body.

Anus: The anus is the final part of the

digestive system, where feces are
eliminated from the body.

2. The mouth physically breaks down food

by using teeth to chew and grind food into
smaller pieces, making it easier to swallow
and digest. The tongue and saliva help to
further break down food and form a bolus
(a small rounded mass of chewed food) for
easier swallowing. The saliva also contains
enzymes, such as amylase, that begin the
process of chemical digestion by breaking
down carbohydrates.

3. Ingestion: The process of taking in food

through the mouth.

Digestion: The breakdown of food into

smaller molecules that can be absorbed
and used by the body.

Absorption: The process of taking

nutrients from the digested food into the
bloodstream to be used by the body.

Elimination: The removal of waste

products from the body in the form of
feces.

4. Unhealthy eating habits and poor

nutrition can negatively affect digestive
function and overall health by causing
inflammation, weight gain, and an
increased risk of digestive disorders.

5. Foods that are beneficial for digestive

function and overall health include fiber-
rich fruits and vegetables, whole grains,
lean protein sources, probiotic-rich foods,
and healthy fats.
