13. If a = -35, b = 10 cm and c = -5, verify that:
(i) a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c
Ans: LHS
-35 + ( 10 + -5) = - 35 + 5 = - 30
RHS
(-35 + 10) + -5 = = -25 + - 5 = - 30
LHS =RHS ,It is verified.
(ii) a × (b + c) = (a × b )+ (a × c)
LHS = -35 x (10 +-5) = -35 x 5 =-175
RHS = -35 x 10 + -35 x -5
= -350 + 175 = -175
LHS =RHS, Hence it is verified

17. ) Evelyn is 3 feet tall. If her uncle is 6 feet tall, how many times more is
Evelyn’s uncle taller than Evelyn?

18. The temperature recorded in a city on Monday is 50°. If the temperature


increases by 10° on Tuesday and falls by 11° on Wednesday. Find the
temperature recorded on Wednesday

Ans : 49°

19. In an examination,3marks are awarded for every correct answer and 1


mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. If a student gets 15questions
correct and7questions incorrect, find the marks scored by him.

Ans: Marks for 1 correct answer = 3


Marks for 1 incorrect answer = -1
Marks for 15 correct answer = 15 x 3 = 45
Marks for 7 incorrect answer = -1 x 7 = - 7
Total score = 45 + - 7 =38
