USB C cable wiring diagram
This article mainly introduces the USB C cable wiring diagram, the pin definition of the 24Pin USB Type C interface
and how to connect the core wires, as a reference for hardware design
Let's first understand the pin definition of 24Pin USB C
Female
Male
For the USB C cable, we mainly introduce the male connector
It can be clearly seen that the Pin position of the same function is diagonally symmetrical with respect to the center
point. After the male connector is inserted into the female connector, the pin function perfectly fits no matter the
direction of insertion. Moreover, the power supply VBUS/GND both have 4 Pins, and these 4 Pins can supply power
at the same time. This is the main reason why USB C is different from the previous connector and can achieve 5A
high current.

USB C cable wiring diagram
The USB C cable wiring diagram is as follows (male to male, only for reference)
Why do 24Pins USB connector use 16 core wires?
Some people may ask, why the 24PIN USB C connector has 24Pins, but the full-featured USB C cable only has 16
cores? This is because 4 VBUS Pins are connected to the same VBUS solder joint on the PCB board, and 4 GND
Pins are connected to the same GND solder joint, 8 becomes 2, which reduces 6 solder joints, and B6 , B7 does not
actually exist, so that all solder joints add up to only 16, which corresponds to a 16-core wires (24-6-2=16)
How does USB C PCB board actually solder the core wires?
The PCB board of USB C MALE has many different designs. In practice, the position of Pin on the PCB board does
not correspond to their position on the interface one by one. The most common is to use both red and black for the
power supply (VBUS), and use braiding as GND to solder to the GEN terminal or the inner shielded metal shell, as
below
If cables requiring a large current (such as 5A), because the power supply wires are too thick, the original VBUS
position cannot accommodate such a thick wires. At this time, the VBUS terminal of the PCB board must be
adjusted to both sides of the PCB board, leave enough space for welding the thick power wires, as shown in the
figure below
