ASIA - being the largest of the continents covers around one third (1/3) of
the world’s total land area. Asia is known for its vast size and
incomparable character.
AFRICA - It is the home for many exotic large mammals, which include
the zebras, giraffes, gazelles, elephants, hippopotamuses and
rhinoceroses, antelopes and carnivores such as lions, leopards, hyenas
and panthers. The second largest of the continents, covers around
22%oftheworld’slandarea.
NORTH AMERICA - is around twice the size of Europe. America has
irregular coastline with many prominent offshore islands, including
Greenland, which is the largest island in the world. More than 1,700
species of birds live and breed on this continent.
SOUTH AMERICA - is the fourth largest continent of the world although it
contains less than 12%oftheworld’s population.
EUROPE - Europe is the fifth largest of the continents. It is also known as
“Europa”. Europa was the daughter of Phoenix in Greek mythology.
AUSTRALIA - Australia is the smallest of the seven continents. The
interiors of the continent are predominantly plains.
ANTARTICA - the sixth largest of the continents is, ice bound throughout
the year.
PHYSICAL MAPS – A rectangular flat map that features the natural
geographical features of the earth’s land mass.
MAP – A drawing or other representation usually on a flat surface, of all or
part of the earth’s surface, ordinarily showing countries, bodies of water,
cities, mountains, etc.
NAUTICAL CHARTS – A rectangular flat map that provide general
indications of the ocean’s depth in fathoms and the characteristics of the
sea bottom (sandy, coral, mud).
CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY - The land on earth is constantly moving.
GLOBE – A globe is a three-dimensional scale model of Earth. The word
“globe” comes from Latin word “globus” meaning round mass or sphere.
POLITICAL MAPS – A rectangular flat map that features the political
boundaries.
PANGEA OR PANGAEA Ancient Greek word means “All Lands”.
LOCATOR MAPS - Are maps with grids with horizontal numbered squares
on top and lettered vertical squares on the side of small geographical
areas used to locate hotels, attractions and the like.
PANGEA - Over millions of years the continents broke apart from a single
landmass called “Pangea” and moved to their present position.

Continental Drift.
