In cases of field installation:

The rated current of the rating plug has to be lower (or same)
than the rated current of the breaker. (Safety: Coding of the white
screw protect against wrong combinations)

Take into account:

All adjustments are based on the rated current In!

(M) ARMS

ARMS = Arc Reduction Maintenance System

Patent of EATON
IZMX16 and IZMX40 circuit breaker
Digitrip trip units
without ARMS with ARMS

Additional
protection in cases
of maintanance

ARMS
In cases of an arc fault the tripping of
the trip unit speeds up. The released
energies are reduced as: Radiation,
Temperature, Pressure, Forces of
magnetic fields.
ARMS
Arc Reduction Maintenance System
• ARMS can be enabled
manually at the trip unit or
IZMX16 / IZMX40
automatically / remotely by a contact
before maintenance in the field begins
Remote: External contact on 33, 34
• An LED die displays ARMS active or an external
signal lamp on terminal 11, 12.
• ARMS is faster than the un-delayed short circuit
protection.
• A control voltage of 24 VDC (+, -10%) at the
terminals 21, 22 is required.
Catalog
(Z) ZSI = Zone Selectiv Interlocking

• ZSI is described in the Technical Report

IEC/TR 61912-2 Low voltage switchgear and
controlgear – Overcurrent protective devices –
Part 2: Selectivity under overcurrent
conditions.
• The term zone selective interlocking is used to
describe a method of controlling circuit
breakers to provide selectivity with very short
interruption times for the breaker closest to
the fault.
Zone Selective Interlocking

• There are different levels (zones) of protection

that isolate the fault in the distribution system.
• ZSI may be applied for faults between phases
or earth-faults or both.
• ZSI is applied to the short time faults where
time selectivity can be achieved with the
breakers between the zones.
• Each breaker should have a ZSI unit for
selectivity.
See next picture ->

5. Further information
Thermal Memory

• Thermal Memory electronically simulates

the thermal condition of the electrical load
to prevent overheating caused by repeated
overload conditions.
• Thermal Memory function will cause faster
trip times in sequential testing of breaker
poles!
• The electronic trip unit Thermal Memory
function replicates the bi-metal function of a
mechanical trip unit.

Upgrade (exchange) of trip units in the field
The trip units are now easier and saver Sockel
exchangeable. Re-wiring of the important
current transformers are no more risk.
• The socket contains the „acknowledge“ of the breaker
IZMX16 and IZMX40:
• Breakig capacity Icu / Ics
• Rated short circuit withstand Icw,
• max. rated current,
• Max. making current
…and belongs / remains in the breaker.
• The socket informs the exchangeable trip unit
about this breaker data
• Unmistakeable exchange of trip unit and via coding
even for the rating plug
• Toolless exchange (plug and work)
• Socket contains the Battery, (storage of tripping
causes)
• Battery Test- and Reset-Button. -> The Intensity of the
Battery-LED informs about the Battery condition.
Longer actuation resets the tripping cause information.
Rogowski-sensor

• The advantage of the Rogowski-

sensors are the ferritless core.
This results in no saturation an
the CT can be uses in a wider
range of current under linear and
precise measuring.
• The CT has an additional coil to
provide the power supply for the
trip unit.
