Additional Guidelines
1. Table of Contents: Leave a few pages blank at the front of the notebook for the table of
contents.
2. Pages Dated and Numbered:
o Date the page only when you write something to prove when you performed the
work.
o For each experiment, you should normally have several different dates:
▪ When you completed your pre-lab
▪ When you performed the experiment
▪ When you analyzed your results
o Dates are incredibly important as your results are routinely audited and verified
in the industry.
o Number every page that you have written on, always in the same page corner.
3. Experiment Title:
o At the top of each page for the experiment.
o Every page after the first page should state "cont. Experiment Title" to indicate
the continuation of the experiment.
4. General Format Tip: Start every NEW experiment on a new “right-hand side” page. All
pre-lab work will continue from that page but onto the following “left-hand side” pages.
All in-lab work and post-lab work will begin on the first available “right-hand side”
page for that experiment.
