Steps to open ‘Workbench’
➢ Type ‘workbench’ in the search bar.
Workbench
Menubar
➢ Drag and drop ‘Fluid Flow (Fluent)’ into the ‘Project Schematic’ and double click on
‘Geometry’.
Interface
Quick access toolbar Ribbon (Menubar)
Tool
Structure toolbar
Options toolbar
Design area
Property toolbar
Unit set up
➢ To create the proper geometry, we need to set the units. Therefore, follow these steps:
a. Click ‘File’.
b. Click ‘SpaceClaim Options’
c. Set the ‘Units’ as shown in Figure.
Top view direction
➢ We need to set the default ‘Top view direction’ so that we can easily switch between
the plane.
➢ For convenience, under ‘Advanced’ option, we will set top view direction as ‘Y’.
Plane selection
➢ Plane selection in the 3D space of cartesian coordinate is very important.
➢ For 2D flow, it is favorable to use X-Y plane with the flow in X- direction.
➢ 2D axisymmetric flow is only possible if the flow is in X- direction. However, for 3D, there
is no such limitation.
Step 1: Click on the tool ‘ Select New Sketch Plane’ which is located below the design area.
Step 2: Select the plane in which you want to make design. At a particular time, you can
only draw in a particular plane.
Optional:
➢ There is another method to create the plane through the ‘Points’. Therefore, select the
points and generate the plane.
Split body
➢ ‘Split body’ is used to bifurcate a single body into multiple bodies.
➢ To split the body, first of all we have to generate a plane.
➢ To split the body, choose ‘Split body’ from the ‘Design’ menubar.
➢ First, we need to select the body and then plane through which we need to split the
body.
Combine the bodies
➢ When we have multiple bodies and we need to combine them
as a single body, ‘Combine’ option is used.
➢ First select the option ‘Combine’ from the ‘Design’ menubar.
Then, it will allow us to select the bodies to be combined.
➢ In the graphical Area, select the multiple bodies using control
key.
Blend
➢ If we want to blend two different shaped geometry,
we have to use ‘Blend’.
➢ Step. 1: Create the rectangular surface over X-Y plane
with 40mm ×40mm.
➢ Step. 2: Create another plane at a distance of 40mm.
➢ Step. 3: Create a circle of diameter of 20mm.
➢ Step. 4: Select ‘Blend’ option and choose ‘rectangle’
and ‘circle’.
