16 A father is 3 times as old as his son. After two years, his age will be two and a half times as
old as his son. Represent this situation algebraically and solve it.

17 The sum of numerator and denominator of a fraction is 8. If 3 is added to both the numerator

18 The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 12. The number obtained by interchanging the
digits exceeds the given number by 18. Find the number.

19 Solve the system of linear equation graphically:4 x−5 y−20=0 ; 3 x +5 y−15=0 Determine
the vertices of the triangle formed by the lines, representing the above equations and the y –
axis.

20 The ratio of incomes of two persons is 9:7 and the ratio of their expenditures is 4:3. If each of
them saves Rs.200 per month, find their monthly incomes.

21 Show that the straight lines represented by the equations:3 x+ y+ 5=0 ; 3 y−x =5 and
2 x+5 y =1 are concurrent and find the coordinates of the point where they intersect.

22 The denominator of a fraction exceeds the numerator by 3. If the difference between the
square of the denominator and the square of the numerator is 21, find the fraction.

25 Abdul travelled 300 km by train and 200 km by taxi, it took him 5 hours and 30 minutes. But
if he travels 260 km by train and 240 km by taxi, he takes 6 minutes longer. Find the speed of
the train and that of the taxi.

26 A boat goes 30 km upstream and 44 km downstream in 10 hours. In 13 hours it can go 40 km


upstream and 55 km downstream. Find the speed of the stream and that of the boat in still
water.

27 Solve the system of linear equations: x + y=4∧3 x −2 y =−3, graphically. Shade the region
bounded by these lines and the x−¿ axis. Also find its area.

28 Places A and B are 80 km apart from each other on a highway. A car starts from A and
another from B at the same time. If they move in the same direction, they meet in 8 hours and
if they move in the opposite directions, they meet in 1 hour 20 minutes. Find the speed of the
cars.

29 8 men and 6 boys can finish a piece of work in one day while 2 men and 3 boys can finish it in
3 days. Find the time taken by one man alone and that by one boy alone to finish the work.

30 3 women and 4 girls can do a piece of work in 14 days, while 4 women and 6 girls can do it
in 10 days. How long would it take 1 woman to finish the work?

charges for a ticket.

35 In a ∆ ABC, ∠C = 3∠B = 2(∠A + ∠B). Find the three angles.
