 ABSTRACT

The use of Bus travelling is a large growing business in Nigeria, the manual use of
bus booking (reservation) is presently very strenuous and also consumes a lot of time
by having to stay on a long queue. For this reason, an efficient system is to be
proposed in this paper to ease the issue of bus booking (reservation) amongst
indigenes within the country. The system is a web- based application that allows
visitors to check bus availability, pay and book bus online. The motivation that led to
the implementation of the proposed system is that the existing system is time
consuming, stressful and more prone to errors in purchasing of tickets, storing of data,
and accessing of data, many customers queue in lines to buy tickets, thereby wasting
precious and productive time for both the transport company and the passengers and
the manual method of keeping records, accessing data or information becomes very
tedious, because all the files that contained information are not well arranged the way
that can be accessed. In this paper, the proposed bus booking system was developed
using Hyper Text Markup language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheet(CSS) and JAVA
SCRIPT. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is
platform independent and it is a web based application. This project will be of benefit
to Road Transport Companies. The expected result is an Online Bus Booking System
that will enable a customer cancel /postpone a booked bus and provide a passenger
with a web based bus booking functions that enables them to reserve/book bus
through the online system and no need to queue up in the counter.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This online bus booking System is a web-based application that allows visitors
(customers) to check for bus availability, pay to the company's bank via bank transfer
as the bank details will be on the web page. The system is established for all visitors
(Customers) in need of transportation system. The online bus booking System
provides bus transporting System, a facility to reserve seats, Cancellation of seats and
different types of enquiry which needs an instant and quick response for the booking
system. This system can be used by the users in performing online booking via the
internet for all their business purposes. Users can use this program directly on their
websites and no need to install it. This online bus booking System will help to avoid a
big percent of mistakes and also present conflicts between Customers and the
accountants, it helps customers to book their bus seats from the comfort of their
homes and check the pricing system of the bus, the price of the bus seats increase or
decrease depending on the season, availability, time of booking and also depending on
the class that the customer select and all these factors will be in the price of payment.
As a prelude to other parts of this study, this Chapter will discuss the background
upon which this study cons initiated, the Statement of the problem, the objective, the
Significance, Scope, limitations, and definition of terms of this study.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY

The introduction of online bus booking systems has revolutionized the way people
plan and book their bus Journeys. Traditionally bus ticket booking system involves
long queues at bus stations and terminals and the inconvenience of booking in person.
The advent of online bus booking platforms has made the process more efficient
and user- friendly in recent years, the travel industry has seen significant digital
transformation. The rise of e-commerce and mobile applications has created a demand
for Convenient and secure online booking services. Online bus booking System have
emerged as a solution to streamline the process of reserving bus tickets, offering users
the ability to view bus schedules, select preferred seats, make payments online.This
project aims to design and implement an advanced online bus booking system to cater
to the growing demand for a more Convenient and efficient way to book bus. The
system will provide a user- friendly interface for customers.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The traditional method or manual method of booking tickets through physical

Counters at bus terminals has long been a cumbersome and time-consuming process.
Travelers often face several challenges and inconveniences, such as:

1. Long Queues and Wait Times: Booking busses in person often entails standing in
long queues, leading to significant wait times, especially during peak travel Seasons.

2. Inaccurate Information: Travelers may not have access to up-to-date bus schedules
and availability information, potentially leading to misinformation and inconvenience.

3. Limited Accessibility: physical ticket counters have limited working hours,

restricting the ability to book busses outside these hours.

4. Inflexible payment Methods: Traditional bus booking typically requires cash

payments, limiting payment options for users who prefer digital transactions.

5. Paper Tickets: Physical paper tickets can be lost or damaged, leading to

Complications in the event of misplaced tickets or ticket destruction.

6. Security Concerns: The use of cash and manual record- keeping Systems poses
security risk for both travelers and bus operators.

1.3 AIM /OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

Aim of the research is to develop an online bus booking system.

Objectives of the studies is to:

1. Design an online bus booking system.

2. Implement objective (1) above.

The advent of online bus booking System Signifies a transformative shift in the way
individuals plan and secure bus transportation. Online bus booking platforms offer an
unprecedented level of Convenience and accessibility to travelers. Users can now
effortlessly explore bus seats, and select these Seats, Conduct secure online payment
just from the Comfort of their homes or mobile devices. This technological
advancement is a response to the growing demands for streamlined, efficient, and
user-centric transportation booking services.
Online bus booking systems significantly impacts the following aspects:

1. Convenience: Travelers can avoid long queues and in-prison bus ticket booking
there by saving time and effort.

2. Accessibility: Users can access real-time information about bus schedules,

enhancing their ability to make informed decisions.

3. Efficiency: Bus operators can manage their Services more efficiently, leading to
improved Customers experience.

transactions and personal Information.

The Scope of this project is defined as follows:

1. User functionality: Users will have access to features such as Seat Selection,
booking management, and account management.

2. Backend Management: Bus operators and administrators will be equipped with

tools to manage bus schedules and bookings.

3. Payment processing: The System will offer Secure payment" processing for online
transactions.

4. Data Security: Stringent Security measures will be implemented to safeguard user

data and financial information.

5. Scalability: The system will be designed to accommodate growth and expansion.

It's essential to acknowledge certain limitations of the Project:

1. Mobile Access: While mobile access is crucial, this project focuses primarily on
web-based application development, with mobile application development as a
potential future entrancements.

2. Integration with other Services: While the system focusses on bus booking, it may
not initially integrate with accommodation booking or other travel services.

3. Internet Connectivity: The system requires users to have access to the internet,
which may limit its accessibility for some individuals.

Project:
