Marking Scheme
1 a) How Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of Isaiah concerning the Messiah
The Messiah would be filled with the holy spirit and anointed by God, during his baptism, a
voice from heaven acknowledged Jesus as the son of God, the holy spirit descended upon him
inform of a dove.
He would bring good news to the poor, Jesus said he had come to fulfil Isaiah’s prophecies
after he read from the scroll in the synagogue at Nazareth.
He would be born of a virgin; Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would give birth to
the messiah/Immanuel.
He is a wonderful counsellor, prince of peace and everlasting father, Jesus taught and spoke
with authority, he explained parables to his followers, teachings on faith, proper use of
wealth, and brought peace by his actions.
The messiah would bring joy and gladness to the world, during his ministry he healed many
people like the woman with the flow of blood, the blind beggar and raised Jairus daughter
and the widow’s son hence brought joy to all.
The Messiah would establish an everlasting kingdom, he did this through preaching about
God’s kingdom, and how one would qualify to be part of the kingdom, he gave his life to
redeem many so as to join this everlasting kingdom.
The Messiah would be despised and rejected, Jesus was despised and rejected in his
hometown, he was opposed by the religious leaders who eventually handed him over to be
crucified.
He bore the sins of human race, man of sorrow and grief, Jesus was arrested, was judged
harshly although innocent, underwent painful suffering, was crucified with thieves, and died
for sake of humankind.
The Messiah would be buried in a rich man’s tomb, Joseph of Arimathea who was a rich
man, buried the body of Jesus.
The messiah would be innocent, without sin, during his passion, the crowd opted to release a
sinner called Barabbas and he was innocently crucified.
The Messiah would be exalted and made great, after his ascension, Jesus is exalted and sits
on the right hand of God. (4x2=8)
b) What the magnificant reveals about the nature of God.
God is a saviour because he remembers the lowly
God is mighty for the scatters the proud/ does great things
God is holy/ holy is his name
God is merciful to those who fear him
God is caring/ protecting because he exalts the humble
He is a provider/ sustained because he fills the hungry
He is faithful because he keeps his promises
He is kind/ helper to his servant Israel (6x1=mks)
c) Ways in which Christian youths show gratitude to God.
Through singing and dancing
By building places of worship
By teaching/preaching the good news
By offering charitable services
By caring for the environment
By visiting the sick
By giving material support to the needy
By publishing Christian literature for people to read (6x1=6mks)
2 a). Zechariah’s vision in the temple (Luke 1:8-23)
It was Zechariah’s turn to burn incense in the temple
A large crowd waited outside,
An angel of the Lord appeared to Zachariah and stood at the right side of the altar.
Zachariah was afraid
the Angel told him not to be afraid because God had heard his prayers:
his wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son and call him John.
The angel outlined the role and qualities of the son to be born.
Zechariah expressed doubt and insisted to be given a sign
He and his wife were old; the angel told him he will be dumb until the child is born.
When he got out of the temple , he could not speak and made signs to the people
the people concluded that he had seen a vision (8x1-8)
b) Teachings of Jesus about John the Baptist.
That John was a prophet
The mission of John had been prophesied in scriptures
John lived in the wilderness
He led a simple life
That he was a Nazarite
John was to prepare the way for the messiah
John was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets
John the Baptist was rejected
John was a messenger (6x1=6)
(c) Why preachers may be disliked by some people in the modern society
When they condemn corruption/bribery /false witness
When they preach against adoration of wealth/power
When they speak against evils like murder/killing
When they condemn false prophets /preachers
When they condemn popular practices like alcoholism/smoking/fashion/forms or leisure
When they condemn irresponsible parenthood
Condemning irresponsible sexual practices.
When too demanding on tithing/money
When they are not good role models /arrogant
Gender discrimination/women preachers can be rejected.

3.a ) Jesus teaching about the Kingdom of God.
It is God who establishes his Kingdom. He is like a Sower.
Jesus has brought /ushered in the Kingdom of God through his works and his very person.
The kingdom of God is a present reality, as the Sower God has sown the seed and it is
growing.
God searches lost individuals /restore them to the kingdom.
The Kingdom of God starts in a small way/grows secretly to include all the nation of the
worlds.
The kingdom of God is for the righteous ones.
There is rejoicing in the kingdom when one lost individual is retrieved /brought back.(7x1=7)
b) Incident when Jesus was questioned about marriage and resurrection in Luke 20:27-38)
The Sadducees, who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead, came to Jesus and asked
him that Moses thought that if a married man dies and had no children then his brother will
inherit the wife and raise children for him.
They said there were seven brothers who all took a wife but died without children
After the woman also died
They asked in resurrection, therefore, whose wife she would belong to for all the seven
brothers had had her as a wife had died.
Jesus replied that the resurrected do not marry.
He said the resurrected cannot die.
The resurrected are like angels.
They are sons of the resurrection.
God’s the God of the living as shown in the call of Moses.
Resurrection is a reality (7x1=7)
c) Lessons why Christians find it difficult to accept the gospel.
Alternative religions/denominations.
Too much wealth/riches.
It is too demanding.
Lack of absolute faith in God.
Science and technology seem to provide solutions to man’s problem.
Lack of good role model.
Discouragement from church leaders.
Permissiveness in the society.
.Drug abuse makes people not to think about God. (6x1=6)
4 a)How the use of the Holy Spirit brought disunity in the Church at Corinth
The people who had the gifts of speaking in tongues despised those who did not have.
There was competition in speaking in tongues
There was no interpretation of tongues hence messages were not understood
People did not show love to one another as they used the gifts of the Holy spirit
There was disorder/confusion in worship as people with different gifts tried to outdo one
another
People did not use the growth/ development of the church
Gifts such as prophecy/teaching/preaching/preaching were looked down upon. (6x1=6)
b) How the unity of believers is expressed in the image of body of Christ. (1st Cor 12:12-31)
Paul describes believers as the body of Christ.
Christ is the head of the church.
The believers’ forms part of the body.
The body has different organs .In the way the church has different members.
They all need to work together for the well-being of the church.
Every part of the body is needed to make it whole/all parts are interdependent /one part
cannot be without the other.
The different church members are given different spiritual gifts by the holy spirit to carry out
God`s work.
There should be no division in the church since all the believers are members of the body of
Christ.
Believers are united through baptism.

c) Ways in which Christians use the fruit of the Holy Spirit to spread the gospel
Christian show love and compassion to one another by helping the needy
They show their kindness by caring for non-believers and preaching the gospel to them so
that they can be saved
They help in working for peace where there is conflict
They have shown self-control when they have been accused falsely
They show gentleness when correcting others
Christians show joy when preaching the good news in midst of persecutions
They have shown patience when they continuously try to win non-Christians to Christianity
They have shown faithfulness when they persevere persecutions for the sake of the
gospel(6x1=6)
5 a) Biblical teaching on acquisition and use of wealth
Riches acquired through just and fair means are not condemned
Even if wealth is acquired through just mean, it should not be idolized
Falling to use wealth to glorify God
God is the source of all riches
Wealth is acquired through obedience to Gods laws
People ought to take care of their wealth/not misuse
Wealth should be equally distributed and not contracted in the hands of a few
Wealth should be used to develop the nation’s infrastructure (7x1=7mks)
b) Ways Christians in Kenya help to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. . •
Show concern towards orphans, street families, less fortunate by setting up homes and
providing for their basic needs.
Provide formal/vocational training to orphans to empower them/make them self-reliant.
Church leaders advocate for equitable distribution of national resources in all areas.
Christians do preach on the values of hard-work, fairness, integrity as a way of eradicating
poverty.
They pay taxes as role models.
Strongly preach against evils like corruption.
Advocates for just wages for workers to improve their living standards.
Christians engaged in business should be role models/ avoid cheating and overcharging
goods.
Should initiate poverty eradication programmes countrywide. • Create job opportunities and
consider the most deserving to be employed.
Should advocate for the implementation of just laws in the society. (6x1=6)
5. c) How misuse of wealth leads to family instability
One may indulge in alcohol drug abuse at the expense of family needs.
Engage in immorality/extra-marital sexual relations/prostitution
Leads to misunderstanding on how to use wealth/invest
One uses wealth to engage in gambling
Spoils children/encourage in gabling
Spoils children/encourages laziness
Arrogance/pride/showing off
One becomes obsessed with wealth and fails to care for the family/one has to time for the

6. a) Outline the rights of a Kenyan citizen.
Right to human dignity/privacy
Right to movement.
Right to vote.
Right to association.
Right to education.
Right to health.
Right to assembly.

Right to own /use personal property.
Right to marry /raise a family.
Right to a fair trial.
Right to freedom of worship /expression.

b) The role played by the church in the political life of a nation
Taking part in general elections
Influencing the removal of a bad and corrupt government by urging citizens to vote it out
Seeking positions in government
Condemning evils without fear

Respecting and obeying the authority since they are ordained by God
Taking part in government functions
Praying for the leaders and nation as a whole
