ICT Practical
Objective: To become familiar with the Microsoft Word interface, including the Title Bar, Ri
bbon, Status Bar, and Document Area, through a series of tasks.
Instructions:
1. Open Microsoft Word:
Start Microsoft Word on your computer.
2. Exploring the Title Bar:
Observe the Title Bar at the top of the window.
Identify and note the name of the document (should be "Document1" if it’s a n
ew document).
Locate the Close, Minimize, and Maximize buttons.
3. Navigating the Ribbon:
Click on each of the following tabs: Home, Insert, Design, Layout, References
, Mailings, Review, and View.
Write down two commands you find in each tab.
Customize the Ribbon by adding a command:
o Right-click the Ribbon and select “Customize the Ribbon”.
o Add any command of your choice to a new tab.
o Use the new command in your document.
4. Using the Status Bar:
Locate the Status Bar at the bottom of the Word window.
Identify the current page number and total word count of your document.
Switch to Web Layout view using the View buttons on the Status Bar.
Return to Print Layout view.

Working in the Document Area:
Type the following paragraph in the Document Area:
Microsoft Word is a powerful word processing software developed by Microsoft. It
allows users to create, edit, format, and print documents. Understanding the interface
and navigation tools in Word is crucial for efficient document creation.
Use the scroll bar to navigate to the top and bottom of the document.
Practice using the following keyboard shortcuts for navigation:
o Page Up (moves the document up one screen)
o Page Down (moves the document down one screen)
o Home (moves the cursor to the beginning of the line)
o End (moves the cursor to the end of the line)
Use the “Go To” function (press Ctrl + G) to navigate to the specific lines or p
ages in your document.

Discuss as a group what you found interesting or challenging about navigating the W
ord interface.
Share tips you discovered that could help others become more efficient in using
Microsoft Word.
