A personal letter is a thoughtful way of communicating with family and friends.

Personal letters are usually informal, but use a standard format. These are the main
sections of personal letters.
Heading:
The heading goes at the top of the page. It includes your address and date.
Greeting:
The greeting includes the name of the person you are writing to and ends with a
comma. (Dear Ann, Dear Grandma, )
Body:
The body is the main text of your letter. It includes the information you want to
give. The body often begins with a question.
Closing :
The closing includes one or two words and ends with a comma. Choose the
appropriate closing for the person your are writing.
Take care, Warm regards, Fondly, Love, Yours truly, Best wishes,
Signature:
Sing your name at the end of the letter.

equipment is about 30 miles from here. My brother Mark and I will open a sporting goods
that will be easier for residents to get to. It will have better customer service than the other
store does, and our prices will be lower. Mark will be the store manager because he is
good with people, and he is calmer than I am. I will be the advertising manager and do the
accounting. Right now, we are all very busy. We plan to open

Remember these guidelines when you write a personal letter:

1. The date goes in the upper right corner. (The month is capitalized, and a
comma goes between the day and the year.)
2. The greeting ( Dear______) is followed by a comma.
3. The closing ( often “ Love” in personal letters ) is followed by a comma.

 Autobiography

My name is Lily Chen. I am form Ru-kung, a very beautiful town

in Chung-hung. Now, I am a student in third grade of Holy Savior High
School. There are five people in my family. They are my
grandmother, my parents and my elder brother and I. My parents are
farmers, who grow rice and vegetables in the rice field. My elder
brother is a college student. I love my family very much. My parents
always tell me to cherish everything we have and to be content with
everything. My parents’ words influence me a lot. Now, I have a
happy life. I feel grateful for everything I own.
My school life is very smooth and ordinary from elementary school
to senior high school. Just like an ordinary student in Taiwan, I enjoy
being a student in my different studying periods. I like learning all sorts
of knowledge and subjects in school even though I don’t do pretty well in
some of the subjects. I still think learning is a quite interesting thing.
When it comes to my favorite subject, I would say English. It is not
only because I gain great sense of accomplishment in this subject but also
because I want to master in this language so that I can open a wider world
for myself. It is my future goal to study in the department of English in a
university. I am making efforts to make this goal come true.
As to my interests, I like hiking and reading a lot. In the school, I
join the hiking club. I usually go hiking with my club members.
Hiking not merely makes me healthy but gives me the chance to
communicate with my friends as well. Therefore, I make many good
friends and I cherish the friendship very much. Reading is one of my
good friends, too. It accompanies me when I am alone. It also opens
many new and fantastic worlds for me. Without reading, I think my life
would be dull and colorless.
Soon, I will graduate from the senior high school, and go to college.
I will definitely choose English as my major. With the passion toward
English learning, I want to apply The English Department in your school
as my first choice. With good academic quality and performances, I do
believe that studying English there will be a pleasing experience for me. I
will do my best to be one of the good and promising students in your
school.
