HREQ 1800.6 ALAMDAR

FALL 2023 TERM

ASSIGNMENT 01 OUTLINE

Part I: Choose One (1) Topic

1. “Childhood is a social construction.” Please provide a critique of this statement.

OR

2. How much control do you think parents really have in determining how their children
will “turn out”? What other people, institutions, or factors play a role in shaping both
parenting practices and child outcomes?

Part II: How to Write Your Reflection

This assignment should be completed in essay format. Therefore, there should be an evident
thesis statement within the intro, the body of your paper, and a conclusion. Your paper should
be based on the textbook aided by lecture notes and tutorial discussions. Outside sources are not
permitted. I would recommend looking through the entire textbook to see if any content would
benefit your paper. You may use first person pronouns and double-space your paper. Please use
the APA citation style for in-text citations and your references page. Cite any concepts, readings,
or information in general that is not your own; thus, anything you get from someone else
requires a citation. If you’re unsure of how to cite properly, the Writing Centre at YorkU can
assist you, you can turn to the APA guideline I uploaded on our tutorial eClass page, or you can
simply ask me. Please be mindful of the fact that there are different ways to cite the textbook,
lecture, and tutorial: ensure you are citing correctly given the guidelines stipulated by the citation
format. Your paper should be approximately 1000 to 1200 words, excluding references and
your cover page. Please also make to use Times New Roman font (size 12), number your
document, and ensure your thesis statement is in bold. Only submit one total file!

In marking your assignments, I will be looking to see how you defend your thesis statement by
using course content and critical analysis and engagement with course material ––
consequently, simply reiterating what the book says without critically examining the content is
inadequate. I will additionally be looking to see if your paper has good flow, academic tone used
throughout, proper grammar and punctuation, and whether you cite properly.

***The deadline is October 30, 2023 by 11:59 pm and it is to be submitted through eClass.***

In case you have any technical difficulties (usually with last-minute submissions), use your
YorkU email address to contact me (your TA) and explain what happened with your essay
assignment. Once the issue has been resolved, upload it right after on eClass Turnitin.
