CAPITALIZATION

- Is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase/capital letter and the remaining letters
are in lowercase/small letters.
- Using capital or uppercase letters.
- Using capital letters at the start of a sentence.
- Capitalizing proper nouns.

CAPITALIZATION RULES:
1. Capitalize proper nouns.
Person, place or thing.
Examples:
 I live in Matalam.
 My name is Denilette.

2. Capitalize the first letter of the word in declarative, imperative, interrogative,


and exclamatory sentences.
Examples:
 I love my dog.
 Bring me a glass of water.
 Where do you live?
 We won!

3. Capitalize the first word in a quotation if it is a complete sentence.


Examples:
 She said, “The children are exhausted.”
 “My nephew works in Japan,” she said.

1. Capitalize abbreviations of titles before and after names.


Examples:
 before names: Mr., Ms., Mrs., Atty., Gen.
 after names: Sr., Jr., Ph.D.

5. Capitalize the first word and all other key words in titles of books, periodicals,
poems, stories, plays, paintings, and other work of arts. All words in a title should be
capitalized except articles, prepositions, and conjunctions fewer than five letters.
Examples:
 The Pretenders
 Romeo and Juliet
 On the Road to Recovery
 The Lives of the Caesars
Sentences:
1. Does john play on your basketball team?
2. My birthday is on december.
3. my friends are great.
4. A year ago I visited davao.
5. Daisy and julianne are good friends.
6. I hate mondays.
7. My sister and i will run in the race together.
8. mathematics is a difficult subject.
9. My favorite book is alice in wonderland.
10.I’m moving to australia next year.
