AREA CHARTS

An area chart emphasizes the magnitude of data by filling the area

between the line and the axis with color or patterns.

- Ideal for comparing multiple data sets over time, showing how
individual components contribute to the whole.

- The filled area under the line makes trends and patterns more
visually striking, helping to communicate cumulative data effectively.

- Commonly used to represent data progression over time, such as

tracking changes in revenue, population, or other cumulative metrics.

- Unlike line charts, area charts focus on the totality of data rather than
just individual data points, making them excellent for illustrating overall
trends.
Types of Area Charts
1. Step Area charts:Area charts which use vertical and horizontal lines to
connect the data points in a series forming a step-like progression.
2. Spline area charts : Area charts in which data points are

connected by smooth curves instead of straight lines.

3. Stacked area charts : Area charts which displays multiple data series

stacked on top of each other, allowing for the comparison of their

cumulative contribution to the whole over time.

When to use an Area Chart

1.Discover trend of magnitude over time

2.Compare between different quantities while analyzing the

trend with time

3.Represent proportions of a category and how they combine

to make the whole

BOX AND WHISKER PLOTS
● A box and whisker plot is defined as a graphical method of displaying variation in a set of
data.
● A box and whisker plots also called as box plot, box and whisker diagram, box and whisker
plot with outliers
● The method to summarize a set of data that is measured using an interval scale is called a
box and whisker plot.

How to Make a Box and Whisker Plot:

The procedure to develop a box and whisker plot comes from the five statistics below..

● Minimum value: The smallest value in the data set

● Second quartile: The value below which the lower 25% of the data are contained
● Median value: The middle number in a range of numbers
● Third quartile: The value above which the upper 25% of the data are contained
● Maximum value: The largest value in the data set

STEP CHARTS
● A Step chart is a Line chart that does not use the shortest distance to connect two
data points.
● These are used when it is necessary to highlight the irregularity of changes: for
example, when changes in tax rates or interest rates are visualized.
● The step Chart does not use the shortest path to connect two data points. It instead
uses vertical and horizontal lines to connect the data points to form a step-like
progression.
● The vertical lines in the graph show the changes in the data and their magnitude.
● There are three modes of step direction: center, backward, and forward. The
default mode is center (in this case data points are placed to the center of
horizontal segments).
DIFFERENCE B/W STEP AND
LINE CHARTS

● A line Chart helps us to see the trend by connecting the data points. The primary
motive of such a chart is the trend and not the Exact time of change.
● Whereas, a step chart helps highlight the exact time of change in the data, along with
the trend.
TAG CLOUD

● A tag cloud is a data visualization technique that represents textual data by

analyzing word frequency across keywords and tags. They can be used to display
keyword metadata on websites, or to visualize free form text.
● Tag clouds are also known as word clouds or weighted lists
● It is commonly used to quickly identify the most prominent terms within a
collection of text, such as in social media posts, customer reviews, or research
articles
WHY TO USE TAG CLOUD

● Text Summarisation
● Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Helping analysts identify patterns, trends, and
anomalies in text data
● Data Presentation
● To analyze the sentiment of target audience
● Aid in search engine optimization
TYPES OF TAG CLOUD

● Data Cloud -It utilizes font size and color to indicate numerical quantities
● Word Cloud or Weighted List -a visual representation to show how frequently a word has been
used in a given text.
● Collocate Cloud - provides a more targeted view of the document or text in question

STEPS TO MAKE TAG CLOUD

● Collect Text Data

● Preprocess the Text
● Count Word Frequencies
● 4. Generate the Tag Cloud
