Installing Windows 10

1
Create a Windows Installation Media. If you order Windows 10 for a new PC build,
they may send you an installation media. If you don't have a Windows installation
media, you can make one. You'll need a computer with internet access and an 8 GB
USB flash drive (16 GB recommended). You also need to know if the computer you want
to install Windows 10 on has 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. You will also need to
purchase Windows to get a product key. This can be done before or after the installation.

Use the following steps to create a Windows Installation Media:

• Insert a USB drive with at least 8 GB of space into any computer with
internet access. This will wipe any existing data on the USB drive, so be
sure to back up any data you want to keep.
• Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-
download/windows10 in a web browser.
• Click Download Tool Now.
• Open the "MediaCreationTool.exe" file in your web browser or
Downloads folder.
• Click Accept.
• Select "Create Installation Media (USB drive, DVD, ISO file) for another
PC" and click Next.
• Select your language, Windows edition, and PC architecture and
click Next.
• Select "USB flash drive" and click Next.
• Select your USB drive and click Next.

2
Back up your files (optional). If you already have a Windows installation on your
computer, a new Windows installation may overwrite your files. Back up any data you
want to keep before beginning a new Windows installation. You can back up your files
to OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

3
Insert the Windows Installation Media in the computer you want to install
Windows on. You can insert the Windows Installation menu into any free USB port.

4
Boot the computer. If the PC is already powered on, restart it using the normal restart
procedures of the operating system that is installed on the PC. If it is not yet powered
on, press the power button to boot it up.

5
Enter the Boot menu. Most newer computers have a boot menu you can enter while
booting up. The way you enter it is different, depending on your motherboard. The most
common way to enter the Boot menu is to press F10, F11, F12, F2, or Esc as the PC
boots up. This Boot menu will display a list of drives you can boot from.[1]
• If you are using an older PC that does not have a Boot menu, you will
need to Enter the BIOS while booting up. The buttons you press to enter
the BIOS is different from one PC manufacturer to another. It will
usually say what buttons you need to press while your computer boots
up. You typically need to press F1 F2, F3, Esc or Delete to enter the
BIOS.[2] You may need to be quick about it. You can also reboot your
PC into the BIOS from inside the Windows Settings menu.

6
Select the USB drive. This is the drive that has the Windows Installation Media. This
will boot the PC from the Windows Installation Media. Once the computer boots from
the USB drive, press any key to start the Windows installation process.
• If you are inside the BIOS settings. Locate the option that says "Boot",
"Boot order", "Priorities" or something similar. Change the boot order so
that your PC boots from the USB drive first. Then select the option to
save and exit. This will reboot your PC from the USB drive.

7
Select your language, time and currency, and keyboard input and click Next. Use
the drop-down menus to first select your language. Then select your country or region,
and your keyboard input method. Then click Next.

8
Click Install Now. It's the button in the center of the screen.

9
Enter your Windows product key and click Next. If you've already purchased
Windows, you can find your license key in your confirmation email. If you have not
purchased Windows, click I don't have a product key. You'll need to purchase
Windows and activate it later on.

10
Select which edition of Windows you want to install and click Next. If you've
already purchased Windows, check which version of Windows you purchased and make
sure you click the right version. If you have not yet purchased Windows, check which
version you want to install. Different versions of Windows have a different price.

• If you are not sure which version of Windows to install, Windows Home
Edition is the most common version of Windows.

11
Click the checkbox next to "I accept the license terms" and click Next. You can
read the license terms in the window in the center. Click next when you are ready to
continue.

12
Click Custom: Install Windows only or Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files,
settings, and applications. If your computer already has a Windows installation on it,
click Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings, and applications. If your
computer does not have a Windows installation or you need to reinstall Windows,
click Custom: Install Windows only.

13
Select a drive or partition you want to install Windows on and click Delete. If you
have multiple hard drives or a hard drive with multiple partitions, select the partition
you want to install Windows on and click Delete. Be aware that this will erase all data
on the drive. Make sure you have backed up all data you want to keep before continuing.
This will leave the drive with unallocated space.

14
Select a drive with unallocated space and click Next. This will start installing
Windows on the drive you selected. The amount of time it takes will depend on the
hardware of your computer.

15
Remove the USB flash drive and restart your computer. Once Windows is finished
installing, your computer will restart automatically. Remove the USB flash drive so that
it does not try to boot from the Flash drive again. The first time Windows boots up, you
will need to go through the Setup process.

Setting Up Windows 10

1
Verify your region and keyboard input. When Windows restarts, it will ask you to
verify your region and keyboard input. If these are correct, click Yes in the lower-right
corner. Otherwise, select the correct region and keyboard input.
• You will also have the option to select another keyboard input. If you
want to select another keyboard input, click Add Input and select
another input. Otherwise, click Skip.

2
Connect to your Wireless network. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
Then enter your wireless password and click Next.
• If you have a wired internet connection, make sure you are connected
to your modem via an Ethernet cable. Windows will automatically detect
your wired connection.

3
Select Set up for personal use and click Next. This option allows you to sign in with
a Microsoft account and use your computer for personal use.
• If you are setting your computer for a business or organization,
select Set up for an organization and click Next. You may need the
aide of your IT department in order to set up Windows with a company
email.

4
Sign in to Windows. If you already have a Microsoft account, you can sign in with your
Microsoft account to import the digital license from a previous Windows computer.
Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype number and password to sign in to
your Microsoft account.
• If you do not have a Microsoft account, click Create account and follow
the instructions to create a new Microsoft account.
• Alternatively, you can click Offline account in the lower-right corner to
create a new local user account for Windows that doesn't have a
Microsoft account associated with it.

5
Click Accept to set up Cortana. Cortana is the built-in voice assistant for Windows.
If you want to set up Cortana, click Accept and follow the instructions. If you don't
want to do it right now, click Decline.

6
Click Yes and follow the instructions to set up the Windows timeline. This feature
allows you to continue what you are doing on other Windows devices. If you want to set
up this feature click Yes and follow the instructions. If you don't want to set this feature
up, click No to move on to the next step.

7
Choose your privacy settings and click Accept. By default, Windows turn on GPS
location tracking, Speech recognition, diagnostics, find my device, inking and typing to
help Microsoft improve language recognition, and relevant ads. Click the toggle switch
to turn off any of these features you don't want to use. Then click Accept. Windows will
do a little more set up and then open your desktop.

How to Install Windows Server 2008 Step by Step

Installing Windows Server 2008 is pretty straightforward and is very much like installing
Windows Vista, but I thought I’d list the necessary steps here for additional information. For
those of you who have never installed Vista before, the entire installation process is different
than it used to be in previous Microsoft operating systems, and notably much easier to perform.

Using Vista’s installation routine is a major benefit, especially for a server OS.
Administrators can partition the system’s hard drives during setup. More importantly, they can
install the necessary AHCI or RAID storage drivers from a CD/DVD or even a USB thumb drive.
Thus, error-prone floppies can finally be sent to the garbage bin.

Note: Windows Server 2008 can also be installed as a Server Core installation, which is a cut-
down version of Windows without the Windows Explorer GUI. Because you don’t have the
Windows Explorer to provide the GUI interface that you are used to, you configure everything
through the command line interface or remotely using a Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
The Server Core can be used for dedicated machines with basic roles such as Domain
controller/Active Directory Domain Services, DNS Server, DHCP Server, file server, print server,
Windows Media Server, IIS 7 web server and Windows Server Virtualization virtual server.

To use Windows Server 2008, you need to meet the following hardware requirements:

Component Requirement

Processor • Minimum: 1GHz (x86 processor) or 1.4GHz (x64 processor) • Recommended: 2GHz or
faster Note: An Intel Itanium 2 processor is required for Windows Server 2008 for
Itanium-based Systems

Memory • Minimum: 512MB RAM • Recommended: 2GB RAM or greater • Maximum (32-bit
systems): 4GB (Standard) or 64GB (Enterprise and Datacenter) • Maximum (64-bit
systems): 32GB (Standard) or 2TB (Enterprise, Datacenter and Itanium-based
Systems)

Available Disk • Minimum: 10GB • Recommended: 40GB or greater Note: Computers with more than
Space 16GB of RAM will require more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files

Drive DVD-ROM drive

Display and • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor • Keyboard • Microsoft Mouse or
Peripherals compatible pointing device

Upgrade notes:

I will not discuss the upgrade process in this article, but for your general knowledge, the upgrade
paths available for Windows Server 2008 shown in the table below:

If you are currently running: You can upgrade to:

Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (R2, Full Installation of Windows Server 2008 Standard
Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2) Edition

Full Installation of Windows Server 2008

Enterprise Edition

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (R2, Full Installation of Windows Server 2008
Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2) Enterprise Edition

Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition (R2, Full Installation of Windows Server 2008
Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2) Datacenter Edition

Follow this procedure to install Windows Server 2008:

1. Insert the appropriate Windows Server 2008 installation media into your DVD drive. If
you don’t have an installation DVD for Windows Server 2008, you can download one for free
from Microsoft’s Windows 2008 Server Trial website.

2. Reboot the computer.

3. When prompted for an installation language and other regional options, make your
selection and press Next.

4. Next, press Install Now to begin the installation process.

5. Product activation is now also identical with that found in Windows Vista. Enter
your Product ID in the next window, and if you want to automatically activate Windows the
moment the installation finishes, click Next.

If you do not have the Product ID available right now, you can leave the box empty, and click
Next. You will need to provide the Product ID later, after the server installation is over. Press
No.

6. Because you did not provide the correct ID, the installation process cannot determine what
kind of Windows Server 2008 license you own, and therefore you will be prompted to select
your correct version in the next screen, assuming you are telling the truth and will provide
the correct ID to prove your selection later on.

7. If you did provide the right Product ID, select the Full version of the right Windows version
you’re prompted, and click Next.

8. Read and accept the license terms by clicking to select the checkbox and pressing Next.

9. In the “Which type of installation do you want?” window, click the only available option
– Custom (Advanced).

10. In the “Where do you want to install Windows?”, if you’re installing the server on a
regular IDE hard disk, click to select the first disk, usually Disk 0, and click Next.

If you’re installing on a hard disk that’s connected to a SCSI controller, click Load Driver and
insert the media provided by the controller’s manufacturer.

If you’re installing in a Virtual Machine environment, make sure you read the “Installing the
Virtual SCSI Controller Driver for Virtual Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008”

If you must, you can also click Drive Options and manually create a partition on the
destination hard disk.

11. The installation now begins, and you can go and have lunch. Copying the setup files from
the DVD to the hard drive only takes about one minute. However, extracting and
uncompressing the files takes a good deal longer. After 20 minutes, the operating system is
installed. The exact time it takes to install server core depends upon your hardware
specifications. Faster disks will perform much faster installs… Windows Server 2008 takes up
approximately 10 GB of hard drive space.

The installation process will reboot your computer, so, if in step #10 you inserted a floppy disk
(either real or virtual), make sure you remove it before going to lunch, as you’ll find the server
hanged without the ability to boot (you can bypass this by configuring the server to boot from a
CD/DVD and then from the hard disk in the booting order on the server’s BIOS)

12. Then the server reboots you’ll be prompted with the new Windows Server 2008 type of login
screen. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to log in.

13. Click on Other User.

14. The default Administrator is blank, so just type Administrator and press Enter.

15. You will be prompted to change the user’s password. You have no choice but to press Ok.

16. In the password changing dialog box, leave the default password blank (duh, read step
#15…), and enter a new, complex, at-least-7-characters-long new password twice. A password
like “topsecret” is not valid (it’s not complex), but one like “T0pSecreT!” sure is. Make sure you
remember it.

17. Someone thought it would be cool to nag you once more, so now you’ll be prompted to
accept the fact that the password had been changed. Press Ok.

18. Finally, the desktop appears and that’s it, you’re logged on and can begin working. You will
be greeted by an assistant for the initial server configuration, and after performing some
initial configuration tasks, you will be able to start working.

KEEP THIS IN MIND!

Device Management

An Operating System manages device communication via their respective drivers. It does the
following activities for device management −
• Keeps tracks of all devices. Program responsible for this task is known as the I/O
controller.
• Decides which process gets the device when and for how much time.
• Allocates the device in the efficient way.
• De-allocates devices.

Peripheral devices you might be called on to install include:

A keyboard, mouse, touch pad, barcode reader, biometric device (for example, a
fingerprint reader), touch screen, motion controller, scanner, microphone, game pad, joystick,
digitizer, digital camera, smart card reader, webcam, camcorder, MIDI-enabled devices,
speakers, and display devices.

Here are the general procedures to install any peripheral device:

1. Read the manufacturer's directions. I know you don't want to hear that again, but when you
follow these directions, the installation goes better. If you later have a problem with the
installation and you ask the manufacturer for help, being able to say you followed the directions
exactly as stated goes a long way toward getting more enthusiastic help and cooperation.

2. Make sure the drivers provided with the device are written for the operating system (OS) you
are using. Recall that 64-bit drivers are required for a 64-bit operating system, and 32-bit drivers
are required for a 32-bit OS. You can sometimes use drivers written for older Windows versions
in newer Windows versions, but for best results, use drivers written for the OS installed. You can
download the drivers you need from the manufacturer's website.

3. Make sure the motherboard port you are using is enabled. Most likely it is enabled, but if the
device is not recognized when you plug it in, go into UEFI/BIOS setup and make sure the port
is enabled. In addition, UEFI/BIOS setup might offer the option to configure a USB port to use
SuperSpeed (USB 3.0), Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0), or original USB (USB 1.1). In addition, if you
are having problems with a motherboard port, don't forget to update the motherboard drivers
that control the port.

4. Install drivers or plug in the device. Some devices, such as a USB printer, require that you
plug in the device before installing the drivers, and some devices require you to install the drivers
before plugging in the device. For some devices, it doesn't matter which is installed first. Carefully
read and follow the device documentation. For example, the documentation for one digital camera
says that if you install the camera before installing the driver, the drivers will not install properly.
If you plug in the device first, Device Setup launches and steps you through the installation of
drivers. As Device Setup works, an icon appears in the taskbar. To see the Device Setup box, as
shown in the figure, click the icon.

5. Install the application software to use the device. For example, a FireWire camcorder is likely
to come bundled with video-editing software. Run the software to use the dev

How to install and configure computer peripheral devices

The peripheral devices are those devices which are connected to the computer and it
helps the computer function. These devices contain both the input devices, which are used to
give command to the computer and the output devices, which help computer showing the result
to the user. The computer works with many peripheral devices so it's important to know that
how much these devices can be installed in the computer and how can a persona configure them.
Following are the devices which are used by the computer and the ways they can be configured;

Input devices:

The device which are connected to computer and they are used to send the data to the
computer internally, are known as the input devices. Following are some important input devices;

Mouse: Mouse is the one of the most common devices that one would find in a desktop. It is
normally plugged with the USB connection. It would be connected through the PS/2 port which
is located on the back of the computer. In older system, one might find the serial port which was
used to move the move around. The old mouse contained ball inside of it which helped it move.
But nor the trend has changed the mouse that one uses contains some LED light. They are called
the laser mouse. The LED light now emits out of the mouse sensing that where the mouse is
being moved. The installation of mouse is easy, one can just plug the mouse and the drivers
would be searched by windows itself. The mouse can be configured from the control panel where
the speed of it can be improved.

Keyboard: it is the famous device that is being used today and it is connected through a USB
connection at the back of the computer. Old keyboards used to have the Mini DIN PS/2
connection with them; one would have to go through the manufacturer's website to know that
what are the drivers for the keyboard and then can get them installed when he connects the
keyboard with the computer.

Touch screen: Touch screen is becoming common as well. They are normally used on the mobile
phones and other smart devices. Also, the tablets also contain this feature. Now it is even
common to find a computer's large screen which works with the touch screen system. It makes
it very easy to type and navigate and one can bring the keyboard on the screen and type it there
as well hence one doesn't have to install the keyboard. The configurations and the installation of
the touch screen are also done in a display when it is bought.

Scanner: At a time, the fax machines were widely used by the people and till now, they use it.
But now the tables have turned and people tend to use the scanners. The scanners have the
ability to turn the paper's image into a digital one hence sending the data from one place to
another while keeping the same paper with us is now an easy task and the data can be sent
more easily through the internet. The scanners are now used a lot and one can simply scan a
paper and save it in any format he wants to.

Barcode reader: If one goes to some super market or the retail environment, one would see the
barcode. It's a machine that is used to read the code which is printed at the back of the products.
The connection of the bar code is normally made through the USB connection. Some old versions
of the bar codes also use the PS.2 connections to get connected to the computer. The barcodes
use the laser technology to read the barcode. The light comes and goes when the code is exposed

to the barcode reader. This eye can directly damage one's eye as well so one has to be careful
while using this machine. The barcode contains a specific driver when it is connected, the driver
is detected by the windows and hence it can work properly.

KVM: If one is working in an environment where there is a single display but there are many
different computers connected to it, the one is using the KVM. KVM means the keyboard, video
and the mouse. Here if one wants to move to another device, he just has to push a single button
to get to other device. This set can be centralized and the KVM can be used to switch between all
the computing devices.

Microphone: the putting of voice in our computer is very common. It is done by the chat or it is
even done for the voice reorganization software's which are available in the market. Microphones
on not only at the headset, but they can be found separately and are there in the laptops as well.
They also have the specific drivers and the configuration can be made through the control panel.

Biometric devices: these devices are used as the security tools. They are mostly used on some
portable devices which tend to go away from one. If one tries to use the laptop, he might find
there is a finger print reader there and hence it is protected since only the administrator who
has set it up can log in to the computer.

Game pads: Game pad is the wonderful thing for the gamers. It allows the gamers to have some
control over the gaming experience.

Joysticks: it is the gaming input which is widely used. It is a stick which has many buttons on
it.

Digitizer: the digitalizing pad has some specialized pins that allow the user to draw on it very
carefully and accurately. They are for those who have got some artistic abilities and they are
installed with the driver.

Multimedia devices:

Multimedia devices have become so common these days and now they are an important
part of our lives. Following are a few devices which are as follows;

Digital cameras: the digital cameras are the standalone cameras which are used by the
individuals. These days almost everyone has got a digital camera and they are even embedded
into the mobile phone where they can be used to take picture. The digital cameras when
connected to the PC for transfer of pictures require the driver to get installed and that driver
comes with the accessories.

Microphone: if one wants to do some conferences or the voice chat, he would be meeting the
microphone. They are available as the separated ones as well which can be easily used. They are
normally connected through some USB connection and there is the digital connector which is
associated with it to provide the high quality.

Webcam: Having a video is now a great need of the everyday life. Now it is very common to find
some built in cameras into the displays which are being used these days. Specially, they are so
common in the laptop and if they are not present, it is pretty common to get it connected and it
is done pretty cheap amount. One can also enjoy the live video if it is plugged through the 802.11
wireless connections which go into the USB connection in the computer.

Camcorder: Most of the video conference has to be recoded and hence one needs the camcorders.
They are normally done for some live videos. Normally those people, who upload videos on the
video sharing websites like YouTube etc., use this tool to record the videos and then can upload
them on the PC, were after editing, they can upload it on the website. They are not only into the
digital cameras but they can be found easily on every laptop and almost every mobile phone so
one can record anything anytime without any hustle. The video is stored in the flash memory.
There is mostly having the large storage capacities in the digital cameras so that the videos can
be recorded no matter how big they are. For transferring the videos off the camera, one would
need a Firewire, it is a kind of direct HDMI connection and it can be used to display the video
immediately on some display.

MIDI enabled devices: MIDI stands for the Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is actually a
device which is musical one and can digitalize all of the information and can transfer it to the
computer in some really standard way. Many of the application which contains these capabilities
of the music use this midi as the standard format so that the information can be getting in and
out of the computer. It is common to get these devices plugged into the computers with the help
of some Ethernet cables and even the USB cables. While on the different side there in instrument
is coated, the large din connections are used to get connected between the commuter and the
device.

Output devices:

Output devices are those devices which do not send the data into the computer, in fact
through these devices, the computer communicates with the user. They contain the devices like
displays, printers etc. Since they are very vital part of the computer system, so one should have
enough knowledge about them. Some of these output devices are as follows;

Printers: if one has the data in the computer, it is obvious that he has to take it out of the
computer. There are several ways for it and one of them is the painters. These printers are
available not only in the office environment and in some retail environment, but at the homes as
well. One might need the printer to take out the prints of the important information he finds on
the internet or the assignment which he creates. At office, many important documents are sent
and received in the digitalized format and they have to be converted to the hard copy so they can
be read easily. At the shops, one might find the painters which are used for printing out the
receipts which are handed over to the customers. Hence printers are used in every aspect of the
busy life. Printers have various types and the laser printers are the most famous type since they
print really good. For printers there is much software and one must install the appropriate drivers
to get them work. The configuration of the pinner can be done manually once it is connected to
the computer.

Speakers: many of the features which are used by us are mainly related to the audio. Doesn't
matter whether one listens to the podcasts or plays music, He would need the audio to be heard.
Even while watching the movie or some educational video, hearing the voice is really important
part and for that purpose, one needs the speakers. The laptop contains the right left speakers
which are located at these both sides. There is also a subwoofer which can be used for the mixing
of the voice. Also, one can have some advanced computer speaker which can be plugged into the
computer externally for the sake of better quality of the sound. The laptops have various options
which ate provided to user so that he can hear the sound with different options.

Display devices: one of the most integral parts of the PC is the display devices which are used.
The human beings need to see that what's going on the operating system and to get in touch
with the interface, they must have some display device which can show them the appropriate
amount of data. Normally the display devices re pretty thin and one has many options for the
display devices and they vary in prices range as well. These devices can be both non touchable
and the touchscreen. These display devices are not just connected to the computers; instead
they are connected to the mobile phones as well. Also, the Tablets contain some display devices
as well. These displays show us what is exactly going on there and how we can control the
computer.

Hence, the computer is made up of many parts and each part plays some really vital role
so one should know all the parts of the computer so that he can get the knowledge about how
they work, how they are installed and how they can be configured once they are connected to
the computer/laptops.
