magnetic field around a current carrying solenoid. Name the region
of uniform magnetic field. (3)
Q7. Consider the following electrical circuit diagram in which nine
identical resistors of 3 Ω each are connected as shown. If the
reading of the ammeter A1 is 1 ampere, answer the following
questions… (4)
(a) What is the relationship between the readings of A1 & A3 ? Give
reasons for your answer. 1

Solution
Answer-1
Option (c) - into the page
Answer – 2
Option (b) – 300 %
Answer – 3
Option (b) – ammeter is connected in series and the voltmeter in parallel.
Answer-4
Option (b) : Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are correct but reason (R) is not the correct explanation of assertion (A).
Answer – 5
Magnetic field will be outward / upward to the plane of the coil / table.

Answer – 6
Solenoid - the solenoid is a long coil containing a large number of close turns of insulated copper wire.

Inside the solenoid (Region between A and B) the magnetic field is uniform.
Answer – 7
(a) As A1 and A3 both are connected in series, so both will read the same readings ie 1 ampere.
So, the current in A1 = Current in A3 = 1 ampere.
(b) Current in A3 = 1 A
Current in A2 –
Current in each resistor (3Ω) in III part will be, 0.25 A because current will distributed equally, as the resistors are
same.
Current in A2 = 0.25 A and Current in A3 = 1 A
So, current in A3 = 4 x Current in A2
(c) In I part the current in each 3Ω resistor will be 0.5 A, so pd across 3Ω, V1 = IR = 0.5 x 3 = 1.5 volt.
OR
Total Resistance R = R1+R2+R3
R1 (Resistance of I part) = 3x3/(3+3) = 1.5Ω
R2 (Resistance of II part), 1/R2 = 1/3+1/3+1/3 = 1
So R2 = 1Ω
R3 (Resistance of III part), 1/R3 = 1/3+1/3+1/3+1/3 = 4/3
So, R3 = ¾ = 0.75Ω
Now R = R1+R2+R3= 1.5 + 1 + 0.75 = 3.25Ω
