* HANDWASHING
Procedure 3 2 1 0
1. Determine the patient
2. Determine the location of running water and
soap
3. Assess your hands
 Nails should be kept short
 Remove all jewelry is recommended
 Check hands for break in the skin
4. Introduce self and explain if hand washing is
observe by the patient.
5. Turn on water and adjust the flow

6. Wet hands thoroughly by holding them under


the running water and apply soap to the
hands.
7. Thoroughly wash and rinse the hands
 Use firm, rubbing and circular movements
to wash the palm, back, and wrist of each
hand.
 Right palm over the dorsum with
interlaced fingers and vice versa
 Palm to palm with fingers interlaced
 Back of fingers to opposing palms with
fingers interlocked
 Rotational rubbing of the thumb clasped
in right palm and vice versa
 Continue the motion for 20 seconds.

 Rub the fingertips against the palm of the
opposite hands.
 Rinse the hands.
8. Thoroughly pat dry the hands and arms
 Dry hands and arms thoroughly with a
paper towel with scrubbing.
 Discard the paper towel in the appropriate
container.
9. Turn off water.
