You can directly digitize in Google Earth also. The advantages are 1) you need not to
georeference 2) you can zoom in as much as possible so that you get high precision during
digitizing.
1. Select your area> go to left panel>right click on my places> create folder> create folder
of what you want to digitize eg. Building/trees/water body etc.
2. Before strting the digitization in google earth make sure the projection is set to transverse
Mercator. To check on that go to main menu>tools> options. It will open Google Earth
Options dialogue box like below. Check whether Universal Transverse Mercator dialogue
box is on or not.
3. Now right click the folder you created> Add>polygon –name the polygon you want to
create eg. Waterbody 1- start digitizing without shutting the dialogue box.
After you complete digitizing the polygon then click ok. Your polygon will be saved.
4. Like this you create road with line, put placemark for point.
5. For road we will only digitize the central line of roads. After importing it to ArcGIS we
will add offsets at both sides of it to get a solid polygon.
6. After your digitization completes you right click on “save place as”- save that as .kmz
file.
7. Now open Arc Map>tool box>conversion tools> from KML>KML to Layer. Following
dialogue box will open.
Put the KMZ file for “Input KML File”, set the output location. Click ok. You see the
data added in table of content but not been able to see it in the main viewer.
8. Right click the data layer in the left pane> data>export data
9. Put a name to the output file. Click ok. The shape file will appear in your display.
10. Like above also import line and point in your ArcGIS web-browser.
After importing
