Q.3 Polynucleotides are called nucleic acid. Each nucleotide is made up of three parts i.e. a
1 pentose sugar, a hetrocyclic nitrogenous base and phosphoric acid. Depending upon the
nature of sugar whether ribose or 2 deoxyribose, nucleic acids are called RNA and DNA
respectively. In all, there are five nitrogenous bases, two of which are purines while
remaining three are pyrimidines. Out of these five bases each type of nucleic acid has four
of them. Many nucleotides are linked together to form polynucleotide chain.
(a) Name a nucleotide which is not found in DNA.

OR

Q.3 In case of electrolytes, when the value of any colligative property is determined
2 experimentally, it is found to be higher than the theoretically calculated value using the
usual expressions. This is because the electrolytes undergo dissociation in the solution.
Similarly, in case of certain substances association takes place, e.g. acetic acid in benzene
and experimental value of colligative property is found to be less than the theoretical
values. The experimentally observed molar masses come out to be different than the
theoretical values. These are called abnormal molar masses. In all such cases a correction
factor, i, called Van’t Hoff factor is introduced which is a ratio of observed value of
colligative property to calculated value. Knowing i the degree of dissociation or association
can be calculated.
(a) What is value of Van’t Hoff factor i for K4[Fe(CN)6]?
