Laboratory Exercises#1

Obtain Design Criteria for an Airconditioning System with the following On-
site available data:

1. An restasurant of 50 person capacity is to be maintained at 25 C and

50% RH by supplying air to the auditorium at a dry bulb temperature of
18 C. The following estimates have been made of heat gain above those
due to human occupancy, the following are data gathered during the
site survey:

Human Occupancy : 50 Person ( in motion )

Transmission Load:

QL = 50%QS of transmission load

H=3m W= 10m L= 15m

Slab thickness = 12 cm

Thermal conductivity of slab k=1.3 W/m-C

Outside Air Temperature = 33 C and 50% RH

Internal Load :

Lighting : Qs =1,800,357.50 kJ/hr

Office Equipment : Qs =500,000 kJ/hr

QL = 0

Solar Load :

QS = 100%QS of Transmission Load

QL = 100% QL of Transmission Load

Determine:

a. The total Sensible Heat load to be used to obtained design criteria

for airconditioning system
Answer: 716 kW

b. The total Latent Heat load to be used to obtained design criteria

for airconditioning system

Answer: 61 kW

2. If the restaurant in problem #1 is to be ventilated only with air coming

from the outside having total distance from the suction louver to the
space which is to be ventilated at 10 m

Obtain the design criteria of a circular ducting as to:

a. What is the total mass of air needed to condition the

auditorium in kg/s
Answer: 37.89 kgs/s
b. The fan capacity (CFM) if the specific volume of air at
airconditioning unit is at 0.83 cu.m/kg?
Answer: 165.47 m3/kg
c. The diameter of a circular ducting to be used.
Answer: 1.5 m
