Week 8
Week 8
1. Describe in detail what your next most significant step or obstacle is.
The most significant step this week for me is to just sit down with some people that I feel like
could be good partners in a venture and talk ideas. This week I spoke with my brother who has
been actively looking for a business venture to get started with, because he has a lot of money
saved up for this specific purpose. I think the biggest obstacle in this step is that he is someone
who has almost contradictory wants for a venture, like he wants it to be low risk but High reward
and so talking to him about compromising on some of these contradictory wants has been an
obstacle.
2. Explain: Why does this step need to be taken or this obstacle overcome?
I think that talking to him about this and trying to figure out where he's willing to compromise is
a big step that needs to be taken because otherwise we will kind of stay paralyzed where we
are currently, which is nowhere. He comes from a Consulting background and we have used
resources for multiple websites and the entrepreneurship class that I took to create a vetting
process for ideas, but then before we go out and test any idea he has talked himself out of it
and thought of a different idea that he wants to run the analysis on. so it's very hard to get out of
stage one.
Like I said in the previous paragraph, We have been using the lean canvas model from the
entrepreneurship boot camp and another resource from Harvard to analyze ideas that we come
up with and create a process for vetting before we take it to the testing stage.
4. What did you learn or experience from your planning and actions this week?
I think a lesson that I learned this week is that there is a certain degree of caution that you want
to have, we have tried a few ideas in the past that didn't work and it was mostly because we
weren’t as cautious, but I feel like you have to trust yourself to a degree as well, because where
we are at right now it’s hard to move forward because he is lacking that ability to bet on himself.
5. Because of this experience, what will you do differently, or what has changed or will
change in your life?
I think that I would actually shorten my stage 1 process a little, because I feel like ideation
doesn’t need as much a process as we’ve given it. I’d want to redistribute the time to vetting
ideas and prototypes instead.
