(A) COMPUTER IN TEACHING LEARNING

(B) COMPUTER IN EVALUATION
(C)COMPUTER IN EDUCATIONAL
ADMINISTRATION
Computer/ ICT in Teaching learning
Information and communication Technologies (ICT) have become
commonplace entities in all aspects of life . Across the past twenty years
the use of ICT has fundamentally changed the practices and procedures
of nearly all forms of endeavour within business and governance.
Education is a very socially oriented activity and quality education has
traditionally been associated with strong teachers having high degrees
of personal contact with learners .The use of ICT in education lend itself
to more student –centered learning settings .But with the world moving
rapidly into digital media and information , the role of ICT in education
is becoming more and more important and this importance will continue
to grow and develop in the 21st century.
COMPUTERS IN TEACHING

In the traditional way of teaching and learning , higher

education institutions designed a program base d on the text
book and lecture which is framed with time and place for
students . In this model , the main purpose is to satisfy
requirements for mastery of a body of knowledge for a lifelong
career. Explosion of technologies in the education and work
places have changed the requirements in education for a
successful career. In addition to mastery of a body of knowledge
a college graduate must develop specific competencies and
abilities. With the help of technology , learning these abilities
can be included in the process of teaching and learning.
1) critical thinking Ability :
Computer resources and applications is form of case study,
simulation. Problem solving , and intelligent system can help to
extend this ability. This ability is very important quality for the
success in the information society .
2)Process Design Ability:
Finding the correct way to communicate and access needed
resources is very important in the accomplishment of
assignment. Learning to design and effective process for
accessing and analyzing information is very essential for
students in today’s multi –resource environment.
3) Team work
IN today’s work places accomplishment of all the assignments
are based on the team work . Students should learn how to be a
team member , how to contribute to the process how to use
computer for communication with team members, and
understand what is the role of the other members in the team.
4) Outcome oriented process :
Today’s multi –resources environment, it is important for
students to design process based on the expected outcome from
expected outcome to process.
5) Communication skills:
Knowledge of how to use computer and communication tools
and how to utilize them for accomplishment of process are very
important part of students’ competency .In addition to electronic
communication , students should develop human communication
skills as a team member.
Computer and communication technologies can be solve two of
the strongest barriers of the teaching and learning, where and
when . Computer based education is gaining more and more
popularity an role in the higher education institutions . Already
most of the higher education institutions are active in the
offering computer-based classes for distance education students.
It provided the following changes for a more realistic and
productive teaching and learning .
1)It allows students to have an active role in the teaching and
learning process.
2)It provides teachers with more options to teach and more time
to evaluate progress of activities.
3)It provides opportunity for virtual university .
4)it helps students to be ready for the tough global economy .
5) It changes teacher –centered to teacher –student-centered or
student –centered education.
USE OF COMPUTERS IN SCHOOLS
Education is a light that shows the mankind the right direction
to surge. The purpose of education is not just making a student
literate but adds rationale thinking, knowledge ability and self-
sufficiency. When there is a willingness to change , there is hope
for progress in any field. Creativity can be developed and
innovation benefits both students and teachers. Innovative
teaching is necessary for the present and future of education to
help students to reach their full potential.Higher education
should serve the long term intellectual needs of the student , for
example ,whether providing new material by teachers helped the
student to gain new insights or opened up new channels of
intellectual stimulation or enhanced student’s essential and
creative thinking power.
Computers have become the life line of young generation. The
present generation students like to embrace all the things in the
ambit of this modern technology. The educators are feeling shy
and reluctant to accept technology as their work partner .Our
present and the immediate next generation educators would like
to view the gap of widening between them and further
generation students in terms of usage of technology for teaching
learning purpose or they would like to modernize themselves in
the struggle to keep their responsible professional position
intact . Universities and institutions in the field of teacher
education are focusing upon the courses for using computers in
education or they simply feel delighted to see the state boards at
school level and National /state councils foe Educational
Research and Training are advancing at great speed to plan out
integration of technology with education.
Some examples of uses of computer in teaching learning are
given below.
Instructions
 Instructing the students using power point slides, word
documents or web pages and using hyperlinks for better
concept clarity .
 Helps in improving pronunciation of students by using
microphones , headphones, speakers, specially prepared
software and special dedicated websites.
 Video conferencing , chat and emails helps in better
communication ,hence better concept clarity. Also concept
of E-tutor has given access to teachers instantly and given
teachers a better chance to earn.
 Current syllabus can be viewed through website of the
concerned school board; made available to students if
teacher has made a website and uploaded using
internet ;and updating using web could be done easily,
 Inspiring students to express their imagination using paint
brush,
 Encouraging the students to surf web pages and gather
relevant detailed information through web pages.
 Readymade software could give practice material to
students.
Learning
 Collecting notes /pictures /videos from web pages foe
detailed information and project/assignments.
 Saving the documents are soft copy for future use.
 Learning through animations ,as they are much near to
the students.
 E-books/online libraries/online encyclopedias help to
guide in minutes and save precious time and resources.
 Creating videos using images , albums for better power
point slides.
 Simulated learning gives them an idea of the real
situation.
 Publication of pamphlet/brochures for awareness with
institution and among community members,
COMPUTER IN EVALUATION
Technology can be used for assessment purposes at
various level ranging from the management of the
assessment information to a fully automated assessment
system. Using computers for the management of assessment
information can enable information to be presented in
different ways to meet the needs of different audiences such
as teachers, students, course organizers and external
examiners. Not only the quality of presentation of reports but
more importantly the range and scope of their content can be
improved by utilizing computers or this purpose. At the other
extreme , in a fully automated assessment system all aspects
of the system from the assessment which the student
completes to the processing and administration of the
marks , including the overall management of assessment
information is technology based. Some examples of uses of
computers in evaluation are enumerated below.
 Keeping records of students for their academic scores
 Keeping records in relation to personal history.
 Creating question bank for students.
 Using computers for testing by asking questions from
question bank,
 Online Testing and evaluation
 Analysis and interpretation of the data
 Previous year question papers and sample papers using
web sites.
COMPUTER IN EDUCTIONAL
ADMINISTRATION

Use of computers can help in running of the school

administration. It can be used during the admission procedures,
storing of officials and students’ records etc. the application of
computers to student record keeping involved from simple
tabulation and keeping records of registration figures,
attendance, grades in examination, admission, registration
scheduling, dropouts and additions, class roasters, student aid,
fees and scholarship, testing and evaluation, and enrolment .
Computers can also be used in educational planning and
decision making, controlling, assisting instruction and
simulation. Computers are helpful in administrating aptitude
tests and achievement tests at the time of entrance. A computer
software can process performance of the functions related with
teacher's and employee's promotion avenues, records of the
distribution of salary, holding of the student's examination,
preparing scheme of examination, printing of papers and
question papers, evaluation of answer sheets, preparing marks
sheets, certificates etc. Illustrative uses of computers in this field
can be summarized below

 Records of students (personal,academic , financial)

 Records of employees of school
 Accounts of the institution
 Decision making process
 Aid to memory with minimum paper work
 Fee collection and maintenance of fees record.
 Circulation of instruction /notices and getting it in printed
form
 Preparation of school magazine

GUIDANCE PURPOSES
 With reference to collective records of the students
maintained year wise stored in computers.
 Testing for aptitude , interest, psychology using
computer data bases and internet’

LIBRARY

 Documents stored as soft copy for

students/faculty members use.
 Online magazines , journals , brochures,
research articles.
 Records of the book/record of the books
maintained using special library software.
