Materials:

- Whiteboard and markers


- Projector and screen
- Handouts with relevant information, case studies, and discussion questions

Introduction: (15 minutes)

- Explain what CRISPR-Cas9 is and its usage


- Ask students: "What ethical concerns do you think might arise from the use of CRISPR-
Cas9?"

Activity 1: Ethical Scenarios (30 minutes)

- Divide class into groups and give each group a card with a different ethical scenario (e.g.
editing embryos, changing physical traits)
- Ask the groups to discuss what pros, cons and ethical problems might arise

Discussion and Debate: (25 minutes)

- Divide the class into two groups: one representing supporters and the other representing
opponents of CRISPR-Cas9.
- Facilitate a structured debate where each group presents arguments and counterarguments
based on the ethical stances.

Homework: (10 minutes)

- Assign students articles on applications of CRISPR-Cas9 and the ethical debates surrounding
them

- Assign people roles in each group and allow turns to speak to maintain respect for one
another

Pitfall= Oversimplification of genetic workings

- Thoroughly explain the genetic tool and how it works using the Cas9 gene
