ds_iq104
ds_iq104
The IQ104 is a controller in the Trend range with 8 analogue inputs, 8 digital inputs, and 8
analogue outputs. Full DDC (direct digital control) with PID control loops is provided. An
optional display panel may be fitted, either on the unit lid or remotely. Network communication
between an IQ104 and other Trend networked controllers is by an opto-isolated 20mA current
loop. Communication to a local supervisor is by RS232. The unit has a flame retardant plastic
housing, with integral cable management trays.
WARNING
The ‘LO’ network
baud speed is now
1200 baud (not
9600 as shown)

Address switch
The address is formed by summing the values of each pole which is down (labelled off).
The illustration shows 1+4+8+32 which equals 45, and 19k2 baud (hi) network speed has
been selected.

Commissioning
CAUTION
Ensure the mains supply safety cover is fitted before powering unit. The IQ104 contains
electrostatic sensitive components. Always wear an electrostatic conductive strap attached
to the supply connection earth point if it is necessary to dismantle the unit.
a) Storage
A minimum of two years configuration data storage and calendar clock function is provided
by a lithium cell, which is only used when the unit is not powered.
b) Communications
The address switch must be set to a valid address. The first seven poles form the address.
Address 1 and addresses 4 to 119 are available on the network. Addresses 0, 2, 3 and 120
to 127 are prohibited.
The network baud rate switch pole 8 selects the speed at which the IQ104 will operate on the
network. Each controller on a network must be set to the same baud rate.
Power up the IQ104. After a few seconds the network bypass relay will be heard to energise.
If this is not the case, check the mains supply and the fuse.
The TX and RX lamps will light indicating network current flow. If TX is off then the cable to the
following controller may be faulty (open circuit). If RX is off then the cable from the previous
controller may be faulty (open or short circuit). Check the leads and connections. To check
the IQ104 alone wire T+ and T- to R+ and R- and confirm the TX and RX lamps light. No lamps
lit, and correct power applied indicates a faulty unit.
To isolate a network wiring fault remove the power from all other controllers on the network.
If the TX and RX lamps do not light, the cabling will have to be checked for open and short
circuits with a multimeter. Do not under any circumstances use a Megger or similar high
voltage cable tester if controllers are still connected to the network cables. When this IQ104
shows network lamps lit, re-power the other controllers one at a time, until the faulty controller
is reached.
The RS232 to local supervisor implements no hardware flow control. Trend supervisor and
utility software requires flow control, so the correct cable must be used to allow supervisor
communication.
c) Inputs
The input sensor type and scaling must be established before power is applied. All inputs
should use screened cable to reduce nuisance readings, especially with thermistors. Cable
screens are connected to the 0v terminals.
The input scaling is set with the jumper behind each input terminal group. Set to the desired
position for T, V, or I. If the jumper is omitted the scaling is 0 to 5v and an open circuit input will
result in random values being read by the IQ104 sensor module.
The 24v instrument supply will destroy the precision 249 ohm scaling resistors if it is connected
directly into an input set for 20mA (I). To prevent this occurrence power off the IQ104 or
disconnect the cable at the IQ104 end before wiring or unwiring a 20mA sensor.

Sensor type Jumper position Connections Sensor type configuration Notes
scaling T B
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------
Notes :-
1.Thermistor inputs should be set to "linearise" scaling; this will cause the controller to use a
ratiometric technique.
2.The T and B values entered are the same as recommended for other IQ controllers.
3.The T and B values must correspond to inputs of +10 volts and -10 volts. This differs from
other IQ controllers.
4.The value of the reference voltage is used by the firmware for voltage and current sensor
scaling and may be calibrated on the configuration "addResses" page. This is factory preset
but may be recalibrated when desired by removing the cable on analogue input channel 1,
selecting "Thermistor" with the jumper and measuring the voltage between the input pin and
0v. Only reference voltages between 4.8 and 5.2 will be accepted by the controller. The
jumper is then returned to the position required.
d) Outputs
The analogue output may use screened cable to reduce nuisance pick-up, although this is
not mandatory. The cable screen is connected to the 0v terminal.
The analogue output scaling of channels 1 to 4 is set with the jumper behind the terminal
group. Set to the desired position for V or I. If the jumper is omitted the scaling is 20mA.
e) Instrument Supply
The current limited 24v dc instrument supply is available for supplying input sensors, Trend
accessory relay modules etc. The user must ascertain the loading from the appropriate data
sheet. Only 200mA current is available over the supply and temperature range. Self resetting
current limiting occurs above 200mA.
